Jets the latest to add a black helmet

They should've added a white helmet so they could do throwback uniforms. Their black jersey/uniform already works with a green helmet, so no need for a black helmet. Another unimaginative use

Agree. The glut of secondary black helmets is too damn high.

 Might be the worst of the lot.
I reckon it'd look better with a white outline on the Cardinal logo.

The thing I'm finding odd is this loosening of the rule was intended for throwbacks, but the amount of never seen before second shells is bewildering.

Theres a lot of teams who dont have a throwback helmet, so i can understand why theyve gone certain colors. A bunch of those teams have black in their colors, or a black alternate jersey, so it was predictable that theyd go black (eg Saints, Cardinals, Panthers, probably see Niners doing it as they have a black alternate jersey, Eagles are doing black just for 2022 but then doing kelly green in 2023), Raiders would be another but they're so staunch about tradition i dont see them doing a black helmet. And a number of those teams without a throwback helmet dont have black in their colors so going their secondary color (eg Bears) is obvious good choice.

Even tho Jets have black in their colors now they really shouldve gone white for a throwback uni. Washington have added black to their colors so them going black another typical easy-out. Good to see the Bengals opted for white for their color rush.

Bunch of teams with only two colors and no throwback helmet in their history, so dunno if theyll bother (eg, Colts). Colts shouldnt do a blue helmet because theyd look too much like Duke.

Wonder if teams without a throwback helmet like Chiefs, Dolphins, Vikings, Lions, Packers (kinda), Ravens, Jaguars, Steelers, Rams, Browns will opt for White/Gold, Orange/Aqua, Gold, Gray/Blue, Green, Gold/Purple, Gold/Teal, Gold, Gold, Brown respectively or stick with tradition.

Teams with throwback helmets have generally done the right thing (apart from Jets) -- bucs will go white in 2023, Falcons red, Pats white, Cowboys white, Bills would go red for sure, Titans white youd imagine, Seahawks going silver for their retro uni, Chargers blue, Broncos blue,

Retro unis are so beautiful and classical. The best will be Patriots, Falcons, Bills, Bucs, Seahawks, Titans/Oilers, Eagles in 2023 donning their original uniforms and helmets.

The Panthers one looks nice and suits their all black uni, but anyone without a throwback helmet deciding on a secondary color for helmet is weird and probably ugly.

I think Colts will go black eventually too - they quietly added black as a 3rd colour when they changed their number font and alternative logos a year or two ago

You're right, they did. That'll still mean they'll look like Duke, who have a blackout uniform as well.

All these non-black teams dabbling with black and blackout uniforms is so lame. Like it's a coveted look.
