New rule idea: a solution to teams having no fit players on the bench (like Collingwood last round)

1. Buckley - keeps super fit, strong, relatively young at 43, champion player
2. Bolton - very young at 37, fit, enthusiastic, no AFL experience but he'll have a crack
3. Simpson - only 40 years old, champion player, would know where the ball is going
4. Bevo - a bit past his prime at 45 but mad as a cut snake, forward pressure specialist
5. Leon Cameron - would likely still have his skills from half back at age 43
6. Leppa - has trained off a bit, but at only 40 can probably still create a contest down back
7. Chris Scott - seems to have slimmed down lately, could do a job in a back pocket
8. Pyke - seems very fit and his oddly shaped head might indicate he's not scared of winning the hard ball
9. Hardwick - could fill in for Steve Morris
10. Longmire - mobility would be a concern but if you could get it to him in the square he could snag a goal
11. Worsfold - might be able to defend, but the run in the legs might not be there at 47
12. Brad Scott - back surgeries, viruses, fighting with ground attendants. too many off field distractions
13. Clarkson - he might snipe someone, but otherwise he'll be very small and lacking the skills
14. Roos - champion player, but at 52 he's probably lost a yard or ten
15. Hinkley - 49 going on 80, not sure how he'd go without his pace
16. Richardson - at 51 his best is behind him
17. Ross Lyon - fitness a concern and looks every bit of 49
18. Eade - at 58 he's probably not got a lot to offer

Not sure it is possible but I like the idea of a sub rule but with stipulations that the sub has to run 3km every quarter. So if there is an injury early in the 3rd quarter that is fine, the injured player is subbed off and is replaced by a player who has just ran 6km.

Not a bad idea, but if the coach had to run 3km each quarter it might make things a bit tricky. Treadmills in the coaching box maybe? Would need to be looked at by the rules committee obviously.

Go one further, the coach HAS to be in the starting 22. You'd get thousands more through the gate to see Ross Lyon line up against the Saints at Ethiad. Or Brad and Chris throwing sneaky elbows into each other behind play. Or Horse and Franklin comparing errection lengths while the ball is down the other end.

Might have been able to hit a target haha

imagine nathan buckley storming down from the coaches box in a grand final to take the field and kick the winning goal? you have clearly grown up on vince mcmahon stories in WWF.

Great suggestion :) (shame it would never happen)
I'm guffawing
This rule would make Freo question their commitment towards Lyon
Pity Hird isn't coaching the Bombers anymore
Woosha is very fit and would do a better job than most coaches , but he's also 47 now ...
From an Eagles POV, I'd love the rule as Simpson is young-ish and fit :) (and a former champion )

I was actually in tears reading this. I don't even know why i found it so funny but i did.
The fourth player goes fown , theres 5 mins left in a final, bruce has flipped his banana
Oh what to do, they are five points down, four players down, five mins left.....the camera pans to the coaches box....buckly stands up takes the shirt off gets on the phone ordering a jumper to be ready.
Comes waltzing down the stairs like Edge at wrestlemania

I like it

Clarko comes on and King hit a few from behind and even up the numbers.

I seriously think it's a great idea, encourages coaches to maintain their fitness and gives the advantage to the team who has a former player as a coach, who still needs years in the system to become adequate, like Leppa.
