Amazingly though, the decision not to give a free on the spot is still considered a good call!

The league will warn clubs if runners continue to interfere with play, limits could be placed on their time on-field or they could be banned altogether.

The rule to be introduced next week will see a free kick paid against runners if they are not out of the 50m arc or making their best effort to leave it when the ball is tossed up during an inside-50 stoppage.

Freo used their runner as a Key Position Player against Geelong and it was dubbed 'just a bad day out' by the AFL. Lyon said he didn't use the runner as an on field coach so that's not why he was out there, so needing a valid reason they said he was just too afraid to come off the oval because Lyon is so scary!? - sound like excuses for what his real role was - filling the gaps in Geelongs advantage which just happened to be where he stood all day, oops! What a bad day out he had!

You'd think if they were keen to change rules they would have used the Freo match as the prime example rather than a one off mistake that wouldn't have even rated a mention if Carlton didn't need 10 excuses for why they lost that match.
