Pendles still going great guns but when it's time to hand over the captaincy surely it goes to Tay Adams.

This bloke just bleeds black and white got smashed twice yesterday, straight back up and onto the next contest.

Thoughts?
Has to go to Adams. After Adams, I'd love to see someone like Maynard who will be more matured by then get a look in.

Sidebottom has always been an option for us too but I don't think he'll be our sole captain.

It's obviously going to be Adams, they groom him for it consistently.

Also not sure what being a match-winner has to do at all with being captain. Our last premiership captain was as blue-collar as they come and so was the one before him.

Steel, if he wants it. Done very well when filling in, though l think it will be a short term appointment.
Bit like when Scott Burns took over after Bucks. I think it was for 1 Season

Maybe thats why we've won a flag every twenty years or so?

I'm sure Tay Tay would do a good job, I'm just after something better thats all?

That doesn't make any sense because we won none with Buckley and Pendlebury at the helm - two blokes who are certified game winners?

No idea what you mean by this either. You're after a better quality footballer to be our captain? A quality footballer doesn't equate to a quality leader.

Anyway, the blokes inside the club actually know who the better fit for captain is and I think it's pretty obvious they're driving Adams to be that guy. I'm inclined to trust that judgment.

Adams IMO does not have the empathy with the “different“ personalities in the group.

By the way it isn’t a criticism of him as he would be my second choice......but I haven’t seen him do this.

Grundy just gets it..........he is a natural born leader.

Such a hard decision. I put a lot of our culture change down to the likes of Grundy, Mayne, Maynard among a couple of others.

Grundy and Mayne the potential future captains. Im sure Grundy could handle the Captaincy well and be pretty influential on the whole playing group like a pendles has.

In terms of his on field actions for Captain Attributes. His work rate around the field, attack on the play and ability to do freakish things for a ruck that lift the team is captaincy material to me.

This is bizarre, school ground logic, picking the best player to be the captain even if a less talented person who oozes leadership is available. Simply being a better player doesn’t make you a better captain.

I would love to hand the reigns to Darcy Moore but I would like to see Pendles Captain a Premiership team in the next two years first.

Nothing Against Adams, he would make a great choice also.

I was just about to post the very same thing. It is about leadership qualities and the captain needs to be a good leader. Too many teams fall into the trap of giving the captaincy to the best player and not to the best leader. They are not one and the same.

It may be just as you say.....or some people might simply be noticing that the bloke that once may have said he didn't want the responsibility suddenly has assumed a huge role in our club. Like I said previously, I'm sure Tay would be that gritty, courageous blue collar skipper in the mould of Maxy and Tony Shaw, but I was also around when another star player burst on the scene and his leadership (even at a young age) was abundantly apparent...I've often wondered how we'd have gone if John Greening had have lasted long enough to be a skipper....I see that same lineage here in Grundy and its something thats growing every week. He leads and others follow...Darcy Moore is another one but I'd have to be sure he's going to play 95% of the games to make him captain.

We're blessed I guess to have so many great leaders about the place eh?

He’s the glue.

I’m not sure I agree, and by no means am I undermining Grundy’s abilities.

In the 2010 grand final I thought Goddard was a shoe in for the norm smith, I was oblivious at the work Hayes was doing at the coal face. I think in much the same way Taylor is somewhat underrated, we are far worse off without him than what people understand. He lifts his intensity when others cannot, he finds a gear to grind his opponents into submission...he visibly demonstrates his intent. He is not easily replaced, neither is Grundy I know!

Grundy is the better player. But as Maxwell showed us, you don’t need to be the best player to be the best leader. I think Grundy is not a footballers footballer, he is a quirky character...a unique cat. Refreshing in a way, but I don’t think he’s the type to mobilise troops and lead in the traditional footballing sense, he is more your modern day hipster...again not taking away from his commitment on the field but country kids aren’t going to warm to that I don’t think. I can’t see him disciplining younger players coming through either. Perhaps my views are outdated, but Taylor has the personality characteristics that I believe are better suited to captaining an AFL side.

Exactly. Grundy doesn't want the captaincy. I don't think it will be him.

Sidebottom will take it for 2 years post Pendles (maybe even while Pendles is still playing), and then maybe Tay or Treloar.

And Goddard was totally robbed of that Norm Smith...

The next captain of Collingwood is easy, it will be Adams. The captain after that is the tricky one as Adams will already be oldish when he takes over, only player from the younger brigade that sort of stands out at the moment as potential captain is Callum Brown but could very easily be someone not on the list at present.
