No one forces Dusty, stuff the CBA, its a Richmond decision, if Dusty wants to be top tiger and declares it.... he will go unchallenged, grimes and nank were/are not natural media performers anyway....

let baker, graham, lunch, vlossy, hopper and co do the media stuff....

simple its all rehearsed and spoon fed by our media manager anyway.

seriously how many times have we seen or heard alex pearce, luke macdonald, jarrod witts, james sicily and others,

its usually only big show ponies like dangerfield spruiking the afl script and he gets media kickbacks that come in brown paper bags and free lunches anyway.

Grimes is a very natural media communicator talker. He is probably the best Public Speaker at the club. Listen to all his interviews after all the finals, his clarity and detail is of high quality.

I don't think we're going to have a Cotchin level captain for a little bit.

Shorty is a good public speaker. I personally believe he has the highest level of buy-in and love for the club. I suppose he isn't the most captainy on field in terms of his outside play but he appears to be pretty communicative on field. I think he would only grow if given the captaincy. Hope he gets it with Bakes as his right hand man. They have a good relationship already and I think they would complement each other and cover each others deficiencies as a leadership duo. I also dont think the roles would hinder either.

I think they're our best option.

jayden post

just needs 22 games as captain to
build confidence

How on earth does Taranto not get recognised as a clear option in this poll?
Agree, surely he's the most obvious, should definitely be Taranto..then maybe Lynch.

Dusty would be great as a leader although his personality isn't suited for the media which is totally fine. He's a natural leader on the field anyway. Given what he's done for us, he can do absolutely anything he wants.

Was Taranto a leader at GWS?

Wouldn't mind him as a VC but prefer a guy to be at a club a bit longer before being the skipper.

Baker is still my pick, the right age to give it a good shake at his best for a few years, has history with the group, highly respected inside and outside the club and plays the right way on the field. If he sets a good example at training and works hard and I don't see why he wouldn't, he's an obvious pick for mine.

Taranto and someone like a Lynch or Vlastuin to be VC.

Dusty is Dusty and doesn't need the leadership roles.

I'm actually going with Jayden Short.
Reckon he's got the maturity to carry it off and can see him adding a bit of Cotch-like hardness to his game to lead by example.
Vice Captains, I don't overly care. Like the idea of leaders in each section of the ground, so probably Lynch & Vlas. Tarranto & Baker also options.

Personally wouldn't want Grimes as Captain, at this stage of his career he needs to focus on himself and his game

Any news on when/how the captain is announced? New coach might mean a different selection process?

I was intially against it given he hadn't been around the club for long enough but I've come around to Taranto.

New coach/new era means it's not as significant that he wasn't here for the dynasty days. Also his professionalism and application is second to none, and would be one of the hardest workers both on and off the field so he sets that example. Seems a good citizen and comfortable with the media and a good character to represent the club.

I'd then have someone like Baker and maybe a more senior head like Vlastuin or Lynch as the VCs.

Exactly, Dawson took on the captaincy at Adelaide after only being at the club 1 year and he had a career best year which culminated in AA selection. I’m all for Taranto as captain. Trains the house down, works his ass off on field so the perfect role model for the young guys, and also the lads seem to love him (singing ohhhhh Timmy Taranto after the Saints win;)).

Yze touches on it here. They are going to start talks about the leadership group this week and will follow a process.
