This is why Fergus isn't being considered for tests despite his great FC record. Genuine 124/125km tonight.

English conditions he’ll be considered reminds me so much of Chadd Sayers (ex SA player now available for England)

Arrh that’s the one completely got them wrong.
Even Worrall wasn't that slow. More 128-132kmh. Mid-low 120s is just too slow for test cricket, even in England - which, fwiw, pitches aren't like what they once were. They put out roads now to let Bazball go at 5s an over. Fergus would get pummelled over there right now. They took down Boland despite bowling 10kmh faster last time, who theoretically should've loved English conditions only to discover they aren't set up for Broad and Anderson anymore, as even Anderson struggled to have an impact in the series.

Anyone think Cooper Connolly is a bit underrated in this thread? Could become a middle order counter puncher in the test team one day. Can't quite seem to cash in for a big score but has looked alright for WA in Shield this season. Don't have too strong feelings about him one way or another but I'd be interested in hearing some opinions about him. Just 21 years old too.

Also, does anyone know how Cal Vidler has been doing? I'm hoping he gets around run in Shield this year after his very impressive debut in March.

Connolly is a big chance to take over Marsh only slight thing personally I don’t love two rocks and diamonds bats but he gas to be a chance good compact bat

Definitely for the future but waaayy too early right now. Needs to sustain some form in domestic FC and List A cricket rather than BBL.

Konstas is worth getting excited about IMO. Can't remember the last domestic player that's looked to have so much time playing the ball.

I like the mention of Coops. There's just something there as a future 5 or 6.

Connolly as a 6 in SL would not be the worst throw at the stumps, I’d think Webster would be ahead as he could double as that 3rd quick/spinner but Connolly in that squad would be a half decent gamble

I'm with others that you'd think he definitely needs a few more seasons (unlike Konstas, there are enough decent options ahead of him and he's nowhere near as impressive at the moment) but there is a lot of talent going under the radar a bit.

Saying that, despite only half putting it together at the moment, he's clearly more front and centre of selectors than we realise given they keep picking him for various formats.

Jesus H Christ, he has 300 first-class runs. There's gambles and there's being completely ridiculous....

The most exciting part of Konstas innings to me was both the power, but also the array of shots. Scored all around the ground with shots to different areas from balls pitched in similar spots.

Will be difficult to bowl to as he isn't limited by his shotmaking and has multiple scoring options in most situations so tying him down won't he simple.

Anyway, I was bored so decided to see how some of the young fellers were doing in the 2nd XI. If there are any names you want to have a look at, you can use the playcricket website.

Bowling figures

Mahli Beardman, 2 wickets for 55 runs across 13 overs.

Tom Straker, 3 wickets for 52 runs across 18 overs.

Batting figures

Liam Blackford, 3, 29, 37, 0, 7, 10*

Ollie Peake, 22, 41*

Harry Dixon, 13, 6 (run out), 5

Joel Davies, 11, 5, 0(1)

Teague Wyllie, 63, 23

Lachy Aitken, 2*, 0, 17, 15

Ryan Hicks 0, 14

And bonus Callum Vidler figures from the u19 champs because I like him:

5 wickets for 45 runs across 18 overs.

Overall, nothing too unexpected...

Vidler, Straker & Beardman should continue to get increasingly more chances in Shield. Wyllie will hopefully continue to push for Shield selection. Dixon & Joel Davies need more time. Ollie Peake will be a gun in due time.

Don’t disagree with you but we may have to gamble on talent, the others just don’t cut it.

I saw someone mention ab de villiers as a comparison to him in terms of shot making and array of shots and i like the comparison. Obviously way way way too early to suggest he will get to the same level but he just seems to have all the tools in the kit bag.
