Roughly 6.9% of the Australian population is in South Australia.

Means that out of the 66 who are playing Shield cricket each round (or 77 if there is an Australian game on) there should be about 4-6 South Australians there.

All other things being equal.

The SACA cricket gurus used to work on 10% as a rough guide. If there were 10% or above in the first class/international set up they were punching slightly above their weight.

Pretty much the prototypical Aussie fast bowler of the last 25 years is 6"4-6"6 and relies on bounce and seam movement.

The skiddy express quicks are always the most freightful.

His action and load into the crease, coupled with his height and bowling speed at 19 reminds me a lot of Dale Steyn.

Both Steyn and Malcolm Marshall were both around the 5'10-5'11 mark.


If he can perform in the Shield, his emergence will be well timed with the ages of Starc and Hazlewood imo.

He's fit now. Qld Cricket played him in a few of the u19 national carnival matches a few weeks back. Was hoping he'd get a run for the Heat but hard to see that happening with Neser, Bartlett and Johnson all fit. Hopefully gets a few games for Qld after the BBL break.

Looks good. Lots of scoring off the back foot. Going back to look at his u19WC highlights and its pretty similar. He watches the ball the whole way to him, reminds me a little of Laxman.

I won't right him off as a white ball prospect because he is still so young but he should be no where near the Aussie team, still has so much to work on.

Obviously BBL is very different to Shield cricket but I think Bryant should definitely be given a crack when the season resumes. He's playing with a lot of confidence and maturity at the moment, and there's a lack of other batters in the QLD set-up that can consistently keep the scoreboard ticking over.

Be good to see Weibgen given a crack too. Probably has a higher ceiling than most of the batters that were in the team in the first part of the season.

Seems to me that if a T20 pitch offers anything at all to the bowlers, the batsman go to water.

I'd like to see Jack Edwards go and do a Div 2 County Stint.

He bowls that 127-130kph speed range that hoops with the Duke over there. Watto used to be able to make it talk at that speed, so do a dozen county quicks. Anderson also in his latter years.

62 wickets @ 26 at that speed in the Shield is nothing to be sneezed at.

He's taken 20 wickets @ 21 with a 46 SR this season.

The fact he's also averaging nearly 30 with the bat with 2 tons, he's a bit of a left field watch for me down the track.

He will never get picked for an Australian debut in Australia as a specialist bowler with those speed, unless he can start averaging 35+ with the bat, however, if he does a few stints in England and takes piles of wickets, he may be a swing bowling 4th option imo over there for away tours in England, New Zealand and South Africa imo.

Somewhere like Yorkshire on Headingly regularly would be good.
