Why are so few of the SA team South Australians?
Roughly 6.9% of the Australian population is in South Australia.

Means that out of the 66 who are playing Shield cricket each round (or 77 if there is an Australian game on) there should be about 4-6 South Australians there.

All other things being equal.

The SACA cricket gurus used to work on 10% as a rough guide. If there were 10% or above in the first class/international set up they were punching slightly above their weight.

Not sure what it would be recently

Plus Head and Carey so 5 which is pretty meh. Bare minimum acceptable contribution to the national set up you'd think

I'm sure it's been lower at times too

Especially considering how many of you want two of them dropped with one essentially being a reserve keeper b

Hope so. Keen to see how he goes.
I wasn't as convinced by him as Konstas, Dixon and Peake but clearly a talent.

Vidler is the one I can't wait to see come through.

It's been a while since we've had a shorter genuine tearaway quick in the Australian setup.

Pretty much the prototypical Aussie fast bowler of the last 25 years is 6"4-6"6 and relies on bounce and seam movement.

The skiddy express quicks are always the most freightful.

His action and load into the crease, coupled with his height and bowling speed at 19 reminds me a lot of Dale Steyn.

Both Steyn and Malcolm Marshall were both around the 5'10-5'11 mark.

If he can perform in the Shield, his emergence will be well timed with the ages of Starc and Hazlewood imo.

Said the same when I saw him in U19 WC (Steyn).
Great surprise bouncer.
Genuinely fast. Nice late outswingers.

England's worst nightmare.

Jhye Richardson is listed as 179cm and goes at 140kmh.

Vidler is an interesting one, hope he gets back on the field soon. Anyone know when he’s due back?
He's fit now. Qld Cricket played him in a few of the u19 national carnival matches a few weeks back. Was hoping he'd get a run for the Heat but hard to see that happening with Neser, Bartlett and Johnson all fit. Hopefully gets a few games for Qld after the BBL break.

Keep an eye out for Hugh Weigben from QLD. Captained the under nineteens Australia side. Averaging seventy five in grade cricket this season after having a few setbacks. I’d be expecting him to debut for the Bulls after the Big Bash.

Some very enjoyable shots in the highlights package from his 133no for Valleys a few weeks back.

I'd imagine Qld Cricket might be running out of patience with Bryce Street, might see Lovell back at the top of the order and either Weibgen or Bryant slotting in to the middle somewhere after the BBL break.

How is this pronounced?

Looks good. Lots of scoring off the back foot. Going back to look at his u19WC highlights and its pretty similar. He watches the ball the whole way to him, reminds me a little of Laxman.

As a German teacher, I was cringing at the Webgen pronunciation during the BBL telecast but perhaps that's how the family have Anglicised their name.
It’s a name that easily can and should be pronounced in the German style. ****s me off when people impose a completely incompatible pronunciation on a foreign name, or one which fails to acknowledge accent differences.

When grandparents announced my folks marriage in the Rhodesian (as it was at the time) Herald they left the accent off the e in my mum's maiden name which without it is a very popular Shona name and a lot of people assumed my father was marrying a black women which wasn't the done thing back then particularly in those parts rather than French Canadian one.

Having an absolute dog of a BBL season.

I still have a lot of faith he'll make it, although I imagine a lot of people on this board will disagree with me.
I won't right him off as a white ball prospect because he is still so young but he should be no where near the Aussie team, still has so much to work on.

How he got an Aussie gig is beyond everyone.

Obviously BBL is very different to Shield cricket but I think Bryant should definitely be given a crack when the season resumes. He's playing with a lot of confidence and maturity at the moment, and there's a lack of other batters in the QLD set-up that can consistently keep the scoreboard ticking over.

Be good to see Weibgen given a crack too. Probably has a higher ceiling than most of the batters that were in the team in the first part of the season.
