I am not happy with Hopper.

Ha ha, to be fair now is the best time to have a crack because most think I am talking out of my arse because I there is no sample size and I must be having a wank.

The truth is I think this is a good time to land a soft blow on Hopper as a wake up call.

Now obviously this is not a pointed attack.

However, lets talk fitness. Taranto has stood out in training with fitness. Unless my eyes are deceiving me Ross seems fitter and more mobile.

When looking at the highlights when we where getting Hopper, Hopper looked best in 2019. he had injuries last year.

All I am saying is I think Hopper needs to get to his best match conditioning like in 2019. So put the work in, do the preparation and hopefully this year will be great for Hopper and the Tigers. Lever of Melbourne looks fitter and Jack Steele seems fitter, so seems to be a trend. Fitness is something a player can control and if your fitterand leaner can mean less injuries and be infectious for the rest of the team

I am just saying Hopper cannot underestimate the importance of fitness for his output and contribution to the team including skinfolds.
His skin fold’s definitely looked like it was holding him back on the weekend.

Yup
Think he should shave his head as well and remove all body air
It’s causing a lot of drag and limiting his top end speed

I hope Hopper is going to be the bulldozer in the pack taking other people off their lane and clearing a path for our boys, like Cotch but heavier.
Fit?
The guy’s a tank

No one wants a tank.

Tanks do not succeed at AFL level. Look at how well Cripps has gone at Carlton due to him sliming down last year.

Hoppers best year by a mile was 2019 becasue he was more mobile.

Hopper is solid enough as it is. He was solid enough in 2019. It looked like he put on more in 2020-2022 which made him counter productive in terms of his output.

This is where I think there is a problem. Some think like you and frankly the 2019 version is better than your version because a more nimble tank of 2019 is far better than a bulkier tank later because at the margin Hopper being able to move a little bit better, in and around the contest, getting a little more space, makes a massive difference because he is not super quick so a little bit more mobile and enduro makes him a far better player. The 2019 slimmer version of Hopper gave oppositions more matchup nightmares!!!

If Hopper was a toothpick sure he needs to bulk up, but in 2019 he was no toothpick, the add on was not necessary and compromised his performances I think

Love see you back to your obtuse self Mr Magic. All the gear and no idea

And yet you fail to provide any argument and simply play the man.

Hopper is not Will Day, he needs to slim down a little to the 2019 model

Hopper does not have to be Taranto, but the 2019 model is his best version of fitness needed

Zion Williamson is a example of big is not beautiful if you cannot stay on the park

A little bit more movement and ability to cover the ground makes Hopper a far better player because he already has enough size and skill

I bet Hopper is not as quick as Dusty, makes a difference, in the mobility stakes and being able to compete offensively and defensively

The other thing is someone like Prestia, it is a little different because he is shorter with a lower centre of gravity, but still Prestia is fairly quick to as well so Presitas bulk does not inhibit him as much although Prestia does not escape a few injuries either

At the end of the day Hopper is here to help us win AFL premierships, not win powerlift competitions

Rubbish, it’s a group preforming together not just 3-4 individuals all trying to get the ball at the same and Hopper will get space for others.

Big bodied midfielders are part of the game and we’ve got one.
Dangerfield, Cripps, Fyfe, Kennedy all successful.
Just because Cripps dropped some weight doesn’t mean Carlton don’t play that role, they’ve just got someone to free up Cripps from time to time.

Judge the team after 10-15 games with him in it.
We’re better with him IMO

Kennedy is only partially successful, Fyfe is known for his reach and spring, Cripps is lighter than Hopper especially for his height and Danger is known for his pace.

Hopper does not need to be a absolute tank because the group performing together has Prestia and Dusty as well as Taranto so while Hopper's size helps there is no need for him to be a total beast among toothpicks.

The other thing is this is not about whether Hopper plays or not it is about how to get the best out of Hopper for himself and how Hopper helps our team the most

Big Deal.

Not many are and those that are close would be played forward to be a threat.
You need different types to make the oppo come up with different answers

C’mon mate.

Guess we’ll see with Hopper.

The best player with size was Plugger.

He never quite got there.

I am not saying Hopper is a dud, I am saying he will be better if he is more mobile like in 2019 when he was playing

If Hopper got closer to his 2019 physique it probably increases our chances of being victorious

He’s the same size and weight as Clayton Oliver (number 1 ranked mid in the entire comp last year) who is a fantastic foil for the smaller and more mobile Mids around him and can use his bulk to out muscle smaller midfielders

Oliver has also won a flag so it must mean he’s a good size using your very arbitrarily rating system

“Never quite got there”

…I hope you mean a flag, geez.

The coaches have got Hopper ready to play the way they want to play him.

Also lets add all the talk last preseason about Dusty. "He has kept the weight off" "Looks like he can cover the ground well slimming down". Didnt turn out too well for him. Now that he has put some size back on and regained that power he looks like a better player.

Oliver is 87 kg, 189cm, if this is accurate

Hopper is 88kg, 187cm., if this is accurate

Also it is about where the weight is. Oliver looks stronger boned with more even distribution. Oliver uses his reach like Fyfe with the extra height like Cripps, slightly different and Oliver is more of a power runner. Oliver looks like he has slightly longer arms carrying a bit extra weight in them as a result

Hopper seems more upper body and legs

Does anyone know what Hopper's weight was in 2019?

I just want Hopper to get the most out of himself

Dunstall was big, powerful and a winner, but Dunstall was quick and a forward to, just saying

Playing weights have always been between 85 - 89kgs

Playing weights depend on the player, it is a individual thing really.

Does anyone know how much weight Cripps lost between 2021 and 2022 seasons or did he just shift it to more muscle in the right places?

Even a player like Leigh Mathews, great player obviously I would argue Leigh Mathews was more powerful in the lower body and hips than the shoulders and it helped him play footy. He had shortish legs like Prestia. As strong as Leigh was, he was pretty nimble I think

The point is some players build their shoulders up too much and compromise the footy ability especially in a midfield role by being too big especially in the torso. A lot of a players power comes from the core and centre of gravity
