Don't mind 'updating' a guideline to ask players to have played more games than they currently do to qualify for finals.

3 seems pretty light on to me and that a player is obviously more committed to another club/competition than they are to the NFNL or their NFNL club - no matter if an ex-junior or not.

Increasing the number buy a few games won't destroy the NFNL, if anything it may see some play more games throughout the year and not just finals. Just thoughts.
Is it fair that a player like Wilson on Richmond's VFL list plays 3 home and way matches with Heidelberg and then plays in a NFNL premiership ?.Possibly the best player in the comp !. I think 4 matches would be fairer . Good players are only usually released when the VFL team has a bye and there wont be 4 byes in a season . Not knocking Heidelberg as they would have won regardless. The bonus was that Wilson is a local and only attracted one point .

5 nfnl games sounds more fair
(Assuming you've played more than 50% of VFL matches)
That would only work if Eastern, Essendon & Footscray adopted the same rule otherwise come finals time if your local club is not in it you are probably going to watch the games where the best players are playing - Even if that means another league

I beg to differ.

example:
I don't think if I am following Heidelberg all year and the NFNL have a rule that says he (Wilson) has to play 6 games to qualify for finals that I then go and watch another comp finals to see teams that may have some drop back from VFL?
or
that Lauchie would go and play for another club/comp because they may have a play only 3 games rule for finals. He would be there cheering on the Bergs.

IMO only - 3 games is a little light on - 5-6 games throughout an 18 game H&A season seems more representative of 'qualification' and alignment to a club and/or competition.

each to their own - Some people like to watch games where there are A graders running around when their own team is not competing in finals......and of course VFL listed players will align with clubs where they can play finals.
Wilson is not the only example of a VFL player aligning to local clubs.

No worries at all - and agree - each to their own.

For me, if I had been watching/following a comp or team all year that had guys who only played three games then it would not change where I went for finals. Id be interested in that comp.
