NFNL Div 1 discussion 2022

Yeah it wasn’t the best decision but posting it here and inciting people to criticise umpires isn’t what we need right now when the league is effectively facing a crisis due to lack of umpires.
Cmon mate he was just mentioned it. The poster is doing some excellent videos around multiple leagues and appears to be a neutral follower and definitely not an umpire basher. Think your misreading his point.

Yes we need umpires I agree but that was not a card and to be honest only just a 50mt penalty. Could be telling if one of your better players was to be carded.

What's your verdict?
Montmorency V Heidelberg yesterday and a Mont player gets sent-off (yellow card) in the third quarter for a "late bump".
Captured by me and here it is - in normal time and slow-motion.
What's your verdict?
(BTW the voice going off in the background is not me!)

Love your work mate across multiple leagues..

Eagles run home
Mont, NP, NH, Boro and Hursty.

Hursty run home
Hberg, NH, NP, WPL and Whit.

NP run home
WPL, Whit, Hursty, Bun, and Hberg.

Huge win on Saturday for Bridges who have the best run home, it's going to take a big ask for the eagles to stay up. But from what i've heard, they don't even want to be in Division 1 so I wouldn't expect them to be too upset at that.

Thanks Turbos for your support.

I love suburban footy and love to video the weekly game I attend while snacking on the local canteen's hotdogs and potato cakes, admiring the suburban tree-lined grounds and watching the salt-of-the-earth loyal spectators - both old and young - bring their passion to the game.

The only thing I don't like is spending 15-20 hours per week doing my video editing and uploading to YouTube.

Next week I'm going to a Division 3 WRFL game between North Sunshine (my old team-I played 52 games with them in the 1970s) and Braybrook. I guess you could call it a local derby! Go Roadrunners.

I managed to capture the send-off decision on video and decided to share it to see what people's thought were.
It was an interesting and controversial part of the game - worthy of examination and comment.
(I'll upload the rest of the game in 2 days on my YouTube channel - about 90 minutes of video.)

It was not my intention to "incite people to criticise umpires".

Umpiring aussie rules has been described as the hardest job in the world - too many split-second fifty-fifty decisions. I wouldn't want to do it.

My post was titled "What's your verdict?" - inviting people to comment if they agree or disagree with the decision and state their opinion.
Surely we can do this in a polite and constructive manner without being seen to criticise or attack umpires.

Anyway, different people see things differently.

Cmon mate, no dim sims? 🤣🤣

It’s great camera work you do at your own expense.

Gee North Sunshine v Braybrook. Probably see a few more 50s and players carded I guess 🤣🤣🤣👊👊

Whittlsesa percentage is the problem now

If Northcote can beat Whittlesea at home next week, I think they are safe. Would be a game clear and around 15-20% with 3 games to go.

Might come down to Hurstbridge vs Whittlesea in the last game

Thanks T.

The card was deserved IMO. Both late and reckless. The proper footage is a bit more damming. Did it have an impact on the result? Highly unlikely. Nothing was going to stop Heidelberg’s momentum. Josh Minogue is a GUN

3 out of 5 missing on Mont and Bundoora

Winner of the round: Definitely Hurstbridge who snapped a 9 game losing streak with a huge and important win over Bundoora. I did say in my Friday write up the bridges would have fancied their chances at Yulong reserve as they have a good record there. Joel Naylor leading from the front with 7 majors and Cooper Perrin getting 2. Huge win and move Hurstbridge off the bottom of the ladder with Whittlesea now falling to 10th.

Loser of the round: Whittlesea, not necessarily for their 25 point loss but overall they slip to 10th behind Hurstbridge and Northcote Park on %. Competitive effort though against Macleod and they will look to the likes of Higgins, Murphy, Atta and Bell to try and get that elusive win which would move them of the bottom of the ladder

Come on buddy. That is not a send of anywhere or anytime. Imagine that was a Grand Final and you get sent off for that. Definately a 50 and that's it.

Good thing the AFL don't have cards. There would be a riot if you started losing players for that.

Can anyone remember a season with such random inconsistent results?

Maybe it’s Covid and sickness but there seems to be completely random results thrown in every week…

Happening in d1 much more than any other division I feel

Hi folks. I attended the Montmorency v Heidelberg game last Saturday (Round 13-9th July 2022) and took my camcorder with me. Good game but Heidelberg was too good and too polished in the end. I took some vision and have just uploaded it on YouTube. If you have time (and the bandwidth) please have a look and share if you like it. Keep an eye out for the beautiful tree-lined bush setting that the footy ground is located in. The outer side of the ground has a natural steep embankment ideal for watching the footy. I filmed from there and it provided great views of the game, ground and bush setting. Gotta luv suburban footy.

Great work once again, your footage is fantastic.

Telling sign when a local fan produces better quality footage than 99% of the official NFNL footage. The amount of missed play or slow camera pans in the official footage makes me think Michael J Fox is behind the lens half the time.

Not that anyone follows it, but does the salary cap return to normal next year?
Don’t think it will go back to normal for a while. At best maybe $120-130k next year. As you say.. doesn’t make a difference when certain clubs aren’t following. No for a fact 1 top 4 club is paying a VFL player upwards of $1500 cash to play when his vfl team has a bye. And when I say cash.. I literally mean cash in an envelope and not declared in salary cap.

haha this would happen in every footy league going round.

Hearing there is a serious push from certain leagues to scrap the salary cap completely. Not sure if NFNL is involved, but i know of at least two metro leagues and 1 big country league who have had discussions of trying to influence the policy to scrap the salary cap

Yep get rid of it. Clubs are taking the piss. But drop the points. 42 is about right. Makes teams develop juniors and put time into their 19’s.

You know this for a fact or from second or third or fourth hand information?

Most clubs would be happy with that

Agree, the administration of a salary cap is also a burden clubs ran by hard working volunteers do not need. In the end a salary cap is laughable and only high up people with their head in the sand thinks it works and is being followed.

It also give clubs a bit of leverage when negotiating.

I think most clubs would prefer to have a bit of extras admin if it saves them 30k-50k.
