Correct that DC #1 had his jumper, as DC #45 was tackling Mcaffer, but #1 was pulling Mcaffer's jumper away from the direction Mcaffer was falling/being tackled to. There is zero reason for #1 to change his direction from going away from Mcaffer to all of a sudden come forward and land on Mcaffer with all his weight other than to leave one on him. Yeah, for sure, #1 had a few fingers inside Mcaffer’s stretched jumper but that did not drag him into him. He chose to launch into him - he could have let the jumper go because it was clear it was a ball up coming.

Its not touch football....

Tbh, genuine taggers, whose only job is to go out there and scrag, hit and put-off an oppositions best players, in local footy is one of my pet hates. No issue with teams trying to quell the influence of key players, but you can do it actions much closer to within the rules than what we normally see.

Also, interesting for Eltham to be taking such a stand, didn't they try the exact tactics with Tom Keys from LP last week?

I just watched the first 10 mins and kept my eyes on McCaffer when he was near the ball (which wasnt often - geez he walks alot) and there was nothing in any of them. I actually think he sort of brings it on by grabbing blokes jumpers and scuffling as much as the others do. Big No.45 was maybe a touch aggressive in an early tackle but nothing you dont see many times in a match. No.1 had every right to join in the tackle in the incident before he got sent off and again nothing much, if anything, in it.

Opposition teams have always 'targeted' the best players and from what i saw there was barely anything in any of the tackles.

Seems he cracked the shits over nothing and was definitely only swearing at the umpire as the umpire was on his own and noone around him.
Good to see someone else saw exactly the same as I saw. Not many touches ( 1 ) and walks alot.... And swearing at the umpire with no one else around. Maybe Hydey was only told that by the player himself about the incident ? Who knows but hope they dont sook up and whinge if he gets more for wasting peoples time at the Tribunal. Hell sure have plenty of tme to sit in the car and gather his thoughts .

Ironic as that was precisely McCaffers role as an AFL player

He admitted he spoke poorly to the Ump initially and accepted the yellow. No issue there at all.

He was jogging off and a DC player was chatting to him about what he had done and he told him where to go.

His back was to ump as he was going off the whole time.

Ump heard something an attributed it to being directed at him and awarded red, he only saw this change in card when the DC player told him, he turns, sees it and keeps going.

This is all very clear on the footage.

The right decision was made tonight.

Nothing about tall poppy or anything, having known the bloke he can take all on field and admits he was wrong initially and totally accepts the yellow. He has played at a very high level and never once been in trouble with umps or tribunal. He actually usually goes out of his way after games to chat to umpires.

Many here just seem to hate either Eltham or him and love sitting here potting a bloke without all the information. You now have it all. I am sure someone else in the know will tell us something different.

What was the verdict by the tribunal

Fair enough but on the footage I couldn’t see anyone between him and the coaches box
When running off would have to look again but can’t remember seeing anyone else it looked like red was held up straight away

Nah there was two yellows before the red. He was jogging off after the 1st and replied to a DC bloke and Ump thought he spoke to him.

Just watched it again and to me it looks as though he clearly directs it at the umpire fromthe vision I saw. But if there is another angle Id be happy to see. To say his back was to umpirre the whole time going off ..Watch again and tell me if it is. Maybe there is another visedo out there. And again Im going from what I can see on the vision.

Clearly there is vision missing as the camera followed the ball, he only turns when someone points out that a red is already being shown....there is no vision of the yellows that proceeded this.

Ok must have been very quick from blowing his whistle stopping play and you see players stop then camera goes to middle of ground and shows a red ..agsin only going on what I see but to give 2 yellows in 5 secs and put them away then grab a red is very quick lol... honestly I don’t care what he gets I just don’t agree with people defending something that is there for all to see and to defend a player going to sit in his car .. unacceptable in my eyes

You are not seeing everything and even the umpire admitted that the player was jogging away and heard something and believed it was directed at him thats why he gave the 2nd yellow but when asked admitted there was others around and 2nd comment could have been directed to them (which player insists was) so second yellow was rescinded. Its that simple, no one denied the first yellow it was the second, the fact you cannot see it on a video really does not mean it did not happen especially when the video misses over 10 seconds.

But I am sure you have seen the footage and know all and are correct and everything is wrong.

Would have been an odd case. Basically the NFNL has overruled an umpire.
Maybe the Ump realised from the footage it wasn’t directed at him though

No they did not. They accepted that the 2nd yellow may have been awarded incorrectly and the Ump admitted there was that possibility so they rescinded the 2nd yellow.

After the first month of footy, where does every team sit on predictions? The three Bears have been right up there along with the Panthers, I think the Burra and Diamo battle out for that 5th finals spot.
Who's been the biggest disappointment so far?

I think Eltham would be disappointed with 2 losses already. But I still think they’ll work it out and be there at the end.

I don’t think their list is as enthusiastic as you’d hope from speaking to a few players down at Panther.

St Mary’s are going very well, and building a sustainable future.

Very impressed with St Mary’s - even in their Round 1 defeat to Eltham
I think that the season is exactly where everyone thought that it would be - The 3 Bears sides and Eltham in the top 4
It will come down to which of these 4 sides can beat the other 3 away from home - The real Bears are on top and will stay there - Side to beat IMO
Diamo are the interesting one as they grow another leg at home but arent that good away from home - May surprise a few top clubs
Fitzroy Stars are the disappointment for me - When they received the grants last year i thought that they would be able to assemble a competitive list but they probably wouldnt win a game in Div 3
