Old Paradians has voted to leave the Victorian Amateur Football Association after 94 years
Amateur club Old Paradians has voted to leave the VAFA after 94 years and will attempt to join a local competition for the 2024 season.
Old Paradians has decided to part ways with the Victorian Amateurs after 94 years.
The VAFA confirmed the club had voted to move to the Northern Football Netball League in 2024.
It follows fellow VAFA club Ivanhoe’s decision to join the NFNL with both clubs set to present their cases this month.
Old Paradians joined the amateurs when it was formed in 1929 and has won 11 premierships, the latest in 2015 when it beat the Hoers.
The VAFA released a statement on Monday night, confirming its bid to keep the Raiders had been rejected.
“The VAFA has been informed by Simon Vincent, president of Old Paradians, that his committee met last week and resolved to move their club into the Northern Football Netball League,” it read.
“As a club with a strong and successful 94-year history in the amateurs, and with the opportunity to capitalise on their existing player pathways through Parade Secondary College and their junior club, Parade St Damians, the VAFA is extremely disappointed to see the Old Paradians choose to depart our competition.
“VAFA representatives, lead by president George Voyage … with the backing of several VAFA clubs, made a strong submission to members of the committee, outlining numerous levels of support to help Old Paradians through its current challenges, but that offer was ultimately rejected.
“The VAFA Board has yet to convene a meeting to assess this latest decision.”
Old Paradians has been contacted for comment.
If they don’t owe money they won’t be held. The club has to be accepted by the NFNL first (meeting tomorrow, dunno exactly when they decide yay or nay).
Then the VAFA has to either clear them or refuse to clear them.
Reading between the lines, I would not be surprised if the VAFA refuses the transfer.
AFL Vic will them clear them on appeal because moving to the NFNL will not be of detriment to the VAFA.
Not just SM 2s players but some senior players and supporters
For someone who "left you all behind last year", you seem to be showing an excessive amount of interest in a Division 3 match.
You should have been at the Division 2 finals instead.
Interesting and scathing remarks re laurimar. Pretty decent write up and be interesting to see the follow up to this . To be honest it’s not warranted and maybe explains why morang get bought into this .not sure why you’d bring up stuff facts are bloke got BOG and laurimar won end of story . Move on . I’m pretty sure to comment on someone else’s club is ordinary after what’s gone on there over the years but anyway each to their ownFor someone who "left you all behind last year", you seem to be showing an excessive amount of interest in a Division 3 match.

The major issue is the fixture. 11 teams is a disaster.
Last thing we need is an uneven draw.
Couldn’t agree more.Time for the tough conversations with the obvious clubs i would have thought.
11 teams is not good at all.
Don't think anyone would miss either of them at this point, 3-4 seasons of them being percentage boosters and determining leading goal kickers.Time for the tough conversations with the obvious clubs i would have thought.

Do either Ressa or Lalor have any junior teams and if not the NFL and AFL should be working with them to rebuild.Don't think anyone would miss either of them at this point, 3-4 seasons of them being percentage boosters and determining leading goal kickers.
Nope, no juniors and no affiliation(MOU) with junior clubs.Do either Ressa or Lalor have any junior teams and if not the NFL and AFL should be working with them to rebuild.
No chance. Div 2 will remain at 10 teams. If OP and Ivanhoe both come in does the league explore floating the option to Mernda to go up or Epping to survive relegation?
