Mega Thread Nick Daicos - Can he be the GOAT? Part 2

I would too:

Probably taking what Nick does for granted too much, and I love the Dogies story, but for me:

3 Darcy
2 Libba
1 Lobb

those 3 were pretty special tonight.
Nick was just ok tonight for the high level he plays at. 3 for Darcy, 2 for Libba and 1 a bit of a raffle maybe Schultz.

Sidey and Pendles were good

Darcy was easily better than Daicos tonight.

People don't value goals and pack marks as much as they should, instead giving the votes to midfielders who get a lot of stats but don't really do much to influence the game. This is not a dig at Daicos as such, more a dig on how midfielders in general get preferential treatment because of the way stats are calculated than players of other positions.
Missed most of the 2nd half but Darcy was immense of what I watched. Shame he kicked those couple of posters. What a talent.

I don't like how he plays for free kicks, to be fair the free kick he got was there. but he does do it a lot.

I am surprised more teams don't tag him, considering some players have had success against him.
to me he is a must tag player no two ways about it.

Daicos was very good tonight, although one of a bunch rather than obvious BOG. It's probably between him, Libba and Darcy for the votes. Dale and Sidebottom were good too but I expect won't get a look in.

My personal favourite was when Cox had to go off, Daicos sprinted about 20m to try and take the kick in his place. He literally kicked the ball to Cox and then kicked it for him, make sense of that
He probably didn’t want to bust a gut, but he’s under order from the AFL to get as much screen time as possible for the sake of their bottom line.

You need a very specific type of player to tag him. Just like tagging Cripps.

Cripps you need a huge muscly dope who's only goal is to wrestle him and prevent getting near the ball at speed. Daicos you need someone who's extremely nimble and also has a huge tank because he doesn't get caught in the scrap of a contest, he just pounces on loose balls.

Few teams have either type to effectively tag either player.

Part of what made Dusty so great was you realistically needed someone who could adequately play on ball and also be able to go 1 out against him in the forward line. Michael Hibberd was about the closest anyone got at the time, he was pretty much the impossible match up for any team to stop at his best.

For Daicos you basically need a defensively minded gut runner. Someone who can attack when required would help too as they would expose Daicos's defensive weaknesses.

I would put Jordon on him from the Swans and I think he would do well in curbing Daicos's influence.

Bedford is the best match up for him around the comp imo. Just built for it.

It was the only accurate one.
1. Heeney
2. Cripps
3. Bont

...

Daylight

4. Naicos

I thought Heeney was the most influential player in 2024, agreed

Daicos has been the most influential player over the last two years

Bont and Cripps are good, but to say daylight is absolute crap.

I'm still waiting to hear what award he was referencing. Because it wasn't the Brownlow, Players MVP or Coaches Award, and the only other Major Award I'm aware of is the Fadgelow, where the order was:
1. Heeney
2. Neale
3. Cripps
4. Daicos
5. Hogan
6. Bontempelli

Weekly reminder that Nick Daicos still hasn't taken a contested mark.
He almost took one with a team mate as the player next to him, but jibbed the contest. Interesting , would it have been considered a contested mark if both Collingwood players had gone for the mark together with no opposition players nearby ? It might be his only chance moving forward
