Or maybe... just maybe there is this little thing to factor in.

Disregarding the talent and output of both players since everyone knows Nick Daicos has it well and truly covered.

Could it possibly be the father-son aspect of it all that has Daicos heralded far more than necessary? Would he get the same amount of attention if his name were perhaps I don't know... Nick Harris? Let's be real here... there is an underlying sweetness added to it all as he is a Daicos.

Let's take a look at how much Carlton and their supporters have copped over the years regarding their utility player Jack Silvagni. Ninth year in the system and people still pull out the same card despite several times proving he is capable of the big game:
'Jack Silvagni is crap and only gets games because of his name.'

Although not the exact same situation, one can definitely apply the same reasoning for Daicos in his respective position. I mean getting praised more than he should. Recording the same numbers as a few others, yet he is the one being considered 'unprecedented' or 'generational'.

Collingwood "Big club" factor? Father-son factor?

It can make sense.

The length of this thread for a player hardly into his career epitomizes the Victorian centricity of bigfooty.

Imagine if Naicos played for GWS, Gold Coast or Brisbane. His name barely be mentioned on the main board.

There is no doubt the romance of the father-son aspect has elevated the hype around Nick. But that is mainly driven by the media. Collingwood = lots of clicks, Collingwood + Nick Daicos = mega clicks.

As for supporters overhyping him, well, that is a supporters role, isn't it? For those as old as me, who saw all of Peter's career, the idea of two Daicos running around is pretty exciting, especially when one of them is as good as Nick from day one. Same for younger supporters who have only seen Peter's highlights on You Tube.

However. if he had chosen to go to GWS instead of us, there is no doubt the level of hatred and vitriol aimed at him would be significantly less, he's paying the Collingwood Tax in that regard.

If he played for any other club, that club's supporters would be defending him against the squib, sidestepper seagull jibes aimed at him, as they are plainly rubbish.

The odds of him becoming the GOAT are long. It's a stretch imagining him being mentioned in the same company as Mathews & Ablett Jnr. As far as I'm concerned, he doesn't need to be, he's going to be a champion of the game, he doesn't need to be the GOAT.

I wonder though if he'd gone to GWS if a fair share of hate would come from Pie fans?

Really?

Tell me another player who was leading every individual award the competition has to offer until their home and away season was ended prematurely, and yet they still performed well enough to finish a close second and third in all of them, in only their second season?

Go.

Really just highlights what a weak era the AFL has entered into since the last dynasty team fell away.

So, almost winning awards is a real clutch, especially wanting to deflect a conversation back to 2023

I mean, if Nicki is that good, he should be currently leading every award this year, given he isn't injured, no?
I think the discussion was, can he be the GOAT? Not is he the GOAT now? Will he be the GOAT by round 14?

These past 28 years have really taken a toll, haven't they?

You really want to make this about clubs or Nicki, the OP?

You lot are really struggling with the amount of deflections at the moment

You do realise that unless he's best on ground in every game he plays, wins every individual award between now and the end of his career, and drags Collingwood over the line for every premiership whilst he's at the club... he can't possibly be anointed as the GOAT?

I thought that was obvious?

But yet, all you continually bring up, how he was leading all these awards before being injured. Bizarre

Poor Lil Nicki, still trying to catch Sheezel

well, given his 6 goal involvements on the Big Stage last year, he's one from one so far.

I'd be happy if he took an contested mark .
