Based on what?
Based on watching him play. Good luck with the tagging.
Zig zags around at speed and knows where the ball will go.
He watches the game live inside his head.
Phenomenal talent.

Always a couple of steps before it happens.
Never seen anything like him.

I agree he's a phenomenal talent but he's a very good (Not elite) runner, he's probably on the weaker side regarding pure strength compared to others and while he's got some toe about him he's no Chris Judd.

His role in the team is what's currently protecting him from the tag as coaches weigh up what they have to give up to stop him, but in terms of whether he's physically able to be tagged he most definitely would be.

The other thing is teams don't have many skilled taggers anymore and they simply don't like implementing them. We've seen years now of Bont, Oliver, Cripps, Petracca, Dusty etc just run rampant and demolish teams yet teams still try and go toe to toe with them and 'back their system'.

So I disagree with the claim he's untaggable, its just very unusual you have a talent so good at half back that they warrant one, teams are still figuring out what the best course of action is.

Anyway can agree to disagree, both are guns but completely different players.

He spends little time at half back now. More midfield. He's deceptively fast and has more skill than Judd.
I've been watching him from his Oakleigh Chargers days. Good luck trying to tag him.
Not sure if you know but he wins our time trials comfortably.

He’s a cardio freak mate.

Kicked out and played on 8 times last game. No idea why these stats count to any player.

Heard Cornes say this but not sure why it matters. A kick is a kick whether it is from the goal square or not. Should we also not count kicks from out on the full or deliberate decisions etc?

No but let’s not get over excited about meters gained or over value the output with these stat paddlers.

I think metres gained is the most useless stat in AFL tbh. Can't believe it even gets mentioned by "experts" in the media - you can kick it 10 times a game 40m forward to nobody and have 400m gained. Meaningless

He isn't in the elite bracket of runners in the AFL. I'm bias with Walsh obviously but he still runs a 40second better 2km time and was the best runner in the competition in 2021 for distance covered in games. He was still susceptible of being tagged despite that... Made it harder for sure but it was still done on multiple occasions successfully.

His top 2km time was reported as 6:30 this year which won out at Collingwood. That's 30-40 seconds behind most of the elite runners in the AFL, and over a 1 minute slower than the few absolute freaks like Harry Sharp.

Walsh’s Mum is picking Nick ahead of her son in a school yard pick mate, Nick has gone past him at a rate of knots and the gap gets bigger every week.

This is actually a really good point...

If they were both lined up against a wall and you were asked who you'd pick first to represent your team for the next 12 years, I don't reckon there would be many picking Walsh ahead of Naicos.

Not even Walsh's mum...

The absolute freaks you speak of are not leading the Brownlow voting.
Nick is fast enough and changes direction at speed. More evasive than your freaks.
Like a Picasso painting or watching the Opera is our Nick.
A thing of beauty

Wrong mate, he’s got a phenomenal engine. He wins all the time trials, can run for days.

Has a massive tank and once inserted full time in the middle I can only think he’s numbers will improve again.

Generational talent

Just because the runners at Collingwood aren't at the same level as other clubs doesn't make him a freak runner in the grand scheme of things. A 6:30 2km time trial is nowhere near the elite bracket of runners in the AFL. Even at the rubbish local club I play for we have 7 guys who beat that this pre season. Nick Daicos is a million times the footballer any of them are for many reasons, but his running ability is not one of them.

A lot of clubs have multiple sub 6min runners, Carlton have 5 of them.

So with it clear that he's factually not in the elite bracket of runners, I'll ask again, what about Nick Daicos physically makes him impossible to tag?

Or is it just more dribble by a bunch of nuffies who think he's the 2nd coming of Christ denying that outside of Lachie Jones for 1 quarter nobody has tried tagging him this year?

Players run up to 15km a game.
Nick I bet would beat most of the guys you mention in a long distance. 2km means shit really.
Just pointing out he's our best at 2km.
