Great win but yet another terrible week in front of goals. 12 behinds this week. With 7, 13 and 8 the previous 3. We tidy that up and nobody can beat us.

Thinking the same, alas.

Thought Jenna could have got some more love from the commentary team.
They said at the start she is undervalued and then went ahead and did the same.

Btw for all the banging on about experience we again had four girls who had never played AFLW until this season - three of them teenagers - plus more responsibility to Tess who had barely played AFLW before. On paper Port had plenty of strong experienced players too. That is a good win.

Interesting match - hard to say whether the closely-competed first half was just down to a Port side who were clearly up for the match, or whether we slipped up in some important respect as well. Certainly seemed like we were looking to play a more open, attack-oriented and less contested game style than we usually have this season (perhaps with an eye to a percentage boost, given how crucial that's likely to be to our top 4 hopes?), and Port's first-term goals in particular were through finding space in our defence where there shouldn't have been any.

Nice that we were able to steady for the second half and come away with a solid win - could easily dismiss it given we only beat one of the expansion sides, but Port were very solid all game and it ends up a victory well-earned. Scoring accuracy issues remain a concern, but last week confirmed to me (despite yet again failing to defeat a top contender) that we're now at the most capable we've ever been of challenging every team in the league - next two weeks now absolutely critical in setting ourselves up for a genuine chance to undo those home-and-away losses in finals. Signs are good - let's hope they prove to be.

the difference is our experienced players have spent years together and the recent introductions have had a really stable structure to integrate themselves into. building a club from scratch is very difficult and Port have done alright

but that said, sucked in 119 1997 port pear flogs

Sure, there’s a good reason almost all expansion clubs have started with seasons of lots of losses. Even if you recruit some big names, it takes time to gel together. But the commentary around it is so lazy.

Last two games are against Collingwood and Richmond and despite both teams being ahead of us I think we will go into the games as favourites, both teams have had far more favourable draws than ours. Collingwood have played Carlton, Sydney, Geelong, Adelaide (lost), Essendon, St. Kilda and GWS, and have Fremantle this week followed by us and Brisbane. Richmond have played Geelong (lost), Adelaide (lost), Hawthorn, Essendon, Brisbane (won), West Coast and Carlton with GWS and us to come in the last two games.

We don't really have that many players from our inception team, it has changed a lot in a short period of time.

We have 18 teams and a season that goes for 10 games, the washup is going to depend heavily on who you play and where over the 10 week season. We might miss out on a top 4 spot because simply because we got a much harder run than other clubs.

the ones we do have are among the best players in the competition though. one of them is the best player in the competition.

It isn't enough though, Erin Phillips isn't exactly making Port a good team and she was unstoppable at the Crows. I think the really good teams have been strong all over the park rather than have a few stars and holes everywhere. We can take advantage of our strengths against weaker opposition, it is against the better teams that don't allow us to then really expose the lack of balance in the side.
