Hopefully Gilroy gets back. It was a lot of fun watching her last season.

Also great to have Jess Duffin back in 2021. I'll be interested to see where she plays. Personally, I think her kicking and intercept ability is too valuable to move her out of the backline, but there is some merit in playing her further up the field and using her skills to hit targets through the forward half of the ground.

There was a photo on AFL Ireland Women's social media with Aileen Gilroy doing a one-on-one training session with the Irish Banshees coach, and it mentioned she was due to leave for Oz next week.

Fixture will be released this week (but if it isn't, just pretend I said nothing).

Also, a total of three Irish players will miss the season, though our Aileen is one of the 14 confirmed to take part. Some players are about to head over, some have finished quarantine. My guess is she's somewhere in between and will be joining the playing group by around Monday (I don't follow her/anybody on Instagram so she's possibly already stated this is/n't correct).

Oh and if you want to know the reason why so many players, like Monique Conti, left the Bulldogs then that article is a pretty good clue. Certainly the club's prerogative to decide against being flexible for somebody in a unique situation (be it a dual-sport athlete, mother of a 7-year-old son, etc.) but maybe don't act like salty campaigners when other clubs do make the effort to accommodate them.

Mon Conti, Emma Kearney, Jenna Bruton, Katie Brennan... as well as AFLW matriarch and former Western Bulldogs vice president Susan Alberti. There's something not right with the way that organisation treats women for there to have been such a talent exodus.

Quite a few others too. Aisling Utri, very good young player, is another one who stands out. Late withdrawal from last season, "choosing" to focus on hockey. What's the bet the Bulldogs actually chose for her and, as with this most recent case, proceeded to lie about it.

And then when their All-Australian defender actually knocks back a lucrative offer from St Kilda and decides to stay at the Dogs, she ends up getting dropped from their "best" 21 anyway!

The irony of them being the beneficiaries of being family friendly in the Treloar business.

What is the chance of North playing Fremantle in the opening round. An unofficial Grand Final of sorts.

You mean the match that should've happened between division winners when everyone in the universe knew covid lock down was imminent and a 4 week finals series would be cancelled?

Don't be silly.

The full fixture for the 2021 AFL Women’s season has been revealed.
After failing to complete the 2020 finals series due to the pandemic, the 14 teams will play a nine-round season with no conferences, meaning they’ll all be listed on one ladder.

Fremantle was unbeaten heading into a preliminary final against Daisy Pearce’s Melbourne when the season was called off, while North Melbourne set to face Carlton.

The season will start a week earlier than usual on Thursday January 28 with a clash between Carlton and Collingwood at Ikon Park.

It will conclude with an eight-team, three-week finals series, with the Grand Final presumably to fall on the weekend of April 18-19.

A Pride Round will be held in Round 2 and an Indigenous Round in Round 5. A Western Derby will take place in Round 4, along with a QClash in Round 5.

The league will be hoping to gain some early traction in the sporting landscape, given the Australian Open tennis will not be running during the first two rounds

All AFLW matches will be ticketed for the first time, with entry $10 for adults and those under 18 allowed in for free. Pre-season matches are set to begin in mid-January.
