That explanation by Taufell might well be completely correct but even though hot spot and snicko create a redundancy which means that either one alone can be used to make a 3rd umpire decision, it doesn't explain why both are used on some occasions. Today they were OK with either/or but on other days it's both that are checked.

And he also mentioned that Australia is almost the only place using both technologies.
