International Cricket being played in Australia on New Year's Day since WSC (all ODIs)
1987 - England d Australia by 37 runs - Perth
1991 - Australia d England by 68 runs - Sydney
1996 - Australia d West Indies by 1 wicket - Sydney
1997 - Pakistan d Australia by 4 wickets - Sydney

I get you don't like T20, but if the issue is that there's no international cricket on New Year's Day, then that's something that hasn't existed for 27 years, and was never an ingrained part of the cricket calendar due to Sydney wanting to bank their Test/washout as the New Year event.

Frankly I'm surprised these games happened with Australia being scheduled to play Test cricket in Melbourne on December 30 in each of these years and therefore just a one day break before heading off to play an ODI.

Thats exactly what I am talking about

I wanna see Bevo hitting 4 off the last ball

Not this BBB garbage

Big Ben Brown…?
Is it a special on eating vegans?
Warners might be a low-altitude flyer, but thieving his cap is pathetic.
Exactly right
Or it is Bancroft ransoming it for a test spot

I've just seen Glen McGrath talk about the 16th Pink test on breakfast tele. His Foundation was able to establish itself successfully because of his profile as one of Australia's cricket's greats. That profile also enabled him to convince CA to allow him to use the Sydney test as a vehicle to raise funds for his Foundation and to further grow its profile.

This opinion will probably go down like a lead balloon on BF, but I'd like CA to share the marketing and money making opportunities of the Sydney New Year's test with other worthwhile charities on a rotational basis now that the McGrath Foundation is well and truly established. His Foundation is one of many cancer charities and there are many other non cancer charities that are struggling for a public profile and more importantly, for cash. As a CA "insider", I don't think McGrath should have a monopoly on it. I see it as being a bit like North with the approval of the VFL establishing Friday night footy, but after a while having to share it with other clubs instead of just keeping it for ourselves.

Can't wait for this Dave Warner wankfest to be over. Could give a * about his lost hat.

Very good cricketer in Australian conditions but one of the biggest and most unlikeable campaigners to play for Australia.
Is this Warner's last test? I wish someone would talk about him....

Cricket Australia probably feels it dodged a bullet by aligning with the McGrath Foundation rather than the Shane Warne Foundation.

Don't think its that bad of an idea, I do confess though, Id rather keep it with the McGrath as it has indirectly affected me through family

It's been many years since I've been to the SCG. The new stands might be ok for all I know but the aerial shot from the drone makes it look butt-ugly. Right up there with some of the English atrocities that they use as cricket grounds.
