Conditions will likely be bowler friendly tomorrow, though it won't have 4 days worth of ware on he pitch. I still wouldnt be comfortable having anything less than 250 to defend. Especially if they decide short bowling is the only way AGAIN.

The pitch is not showing consistent bounce. That is our one hope but I’m not confident we can defend this

They’ve been peppering Head with short stuff and he’s doing his version of Stokes at Lords, whacking sixes. 249 ahead now with Head and Boland in. Head’s also doing a great job of controlling the strike. 250 ahead now.

That’s a bit disappointing to wake up to.

Guess it’s up to north to lift my spirits

In that last session today, Australia faced 115 balls in 113 minutes. At that rate England would have bowled 61 overs in a full day.

Aside from the incongruity here for a team whose mantra is to keep the game moving forward and to play the game in the right spirit, what's the penalty for captains and slow over rates?

In the spirit of the game, they changed the rules so that Ben Stokes can't be suspended for slow over rates. The team take a pay cut but they get OBEs and Knighthoods if they win, just like their cyclists and tennis players.

Not for a minute suggesting Stokes be suspended. I mean, if it came to that I'm sure Stuart Broad would drop a line to his dad to see if he could pull a few strings.

Surely just a coincidence that when faced with the conundrum of wanting to get the Australians out as quickly as possible, but not wanting to bat for too long themselves in those conditions, that the over rate slumped to a snail's pace.

I should have known better than to believe anything published by the age. They could have made it more clear in the article that broad snr was not referee for this game…

He is A match referee, he's just not THE match referee for this game.

If you go to cricket.com.au then look at the bottom of the match card you will see all the named officials.

Gee the whinging and moaning on this page and excuses flying left right and centre. Im not sure it is wingeing poms anymore , I think the Aussies are just as bad although its the same when the Kangas are losing so dosnt really surprise me:think:;)

Chris Broad has been referee for one of Stuart Broad's tests, during COVID, when all match officials were from the home country.

And Stuart was fined 15% of his match fee by his Chris.
Like getting homework from your dad

Is that it? That's your brag? Needs a lot of work.
