Coaches of the past.

I think folks have mentally rolled our disastrous year under Shaw into his time.

He's actually got to unpack and rebuild FROM that low.

Calling for him to go is just, wow.

Yay, let's have four coaches in four years.

Who would have thought the same players would be shit under different coaches.

Amazing gymnastics from some campaigners here.

Give us five years you flogs

I was in doubt where the rot is occurring but actively don't want him sacked right now. It would mask the issue.

It would make me sick to see Noble sacked, Blakey as caretaker and we canter off to a 30 point win over someone like St Kilda. Would just be another false dawn a la 2019 and Shaw's Richmond debut.

Fool me once and all that. We saw a few weeks later and by the start of next season that the new coach lift was all just hot air.

We have new fitness and conditioning, medical and high performance staff who have joined this year. 2 of them came from a premiership club and another came from a recent grand finalist.

There are just too many potential causes of current malaise that will be much harder to identify if we sack the coach now.

I'm on high alert over some of our seniors now:

  • Goldstein - I'm a huge fan of his playing but he ain't exactly a Corey McKernan grade clubman in putting an arm around the young charges. It's fantastic he's so professional but you can hear in his voice when interviewed that he doesn't see any kind of transition plan as his concern.
(a few of us chatted to Petrie when he signed his first contract extension after serious attention from * and he cited how much guys like Archer and McKernan has him wanted to stay. Who are the Archers and McKernans now???)
  • Ziebell - I can't get past him using the Tarrant situation to work the club over for a 2 year deal.
Great move for his superannuation but was he really thinking of the club's best interest? When I think of Laidley retiring as soon as the thought of stopping a younger player getting a game seemed unpalatable or McKernan and Colbert both trying to give money back to the club or Archer buying the club a van out of his own coin then see these sorts of decision - I wonder what happened to any sort of club first mentality?

The last person I’d heard of at club like that was a bigfooty favourite McMillan..
not surprising they kept him around the club.

I don't necessarily want him gone rn, but i don't know how you can watch us at the moment, particularly our ball movement from d50 and just weird selection policies, and not think that the coaching is a serious issue

It's not the talent deficit alone that has caused us to lose 5 of our 8 games by 50+ points

Also the fact that we've gone backwards this year compared to last is seriously alarming. yeah, i know, progress isnt linear and whatever, but just how bad we've been is arguably as bad as we've ever been, even under shaw

Excellent talk re Noble at the start of On The Couch tonight.

Basically lost his shit with the team after the Brisbane game and 'lost' a few players. Has had to apologise for it. Players feel the game plan is too complex, and the feedback isn't constructive enough.

We picked Declan Watson (34) and Josh Williams (36) before Sean Darcy (38).

Hindsight is easy of course but seriously ouch - if we had Darcy none of our transition ruck issues would even exist.

(Tom Stewart went at 40 too - pretty sure he's an extreme upgrade on what we have down there....)

I saw Darcy play about four times during his last 2 years in school. My overall sense was that he was a big, awkward, lumbering lug of a player. Now, he’s a future all-Australian. Talk about growing into your body.

WTF? I was right. My info correct. Well, I'll be.........

He’s a new coach, Im sure he can present his feedback in a more constructive way. I would be disgusted with that effort against Brisbane too, it just exposes that there is a disconnect.

I hope this doesn’t spread through the team, because once that connection between the coaches and players is lost… well we’re seeing it right in front of our eyes

I would’ve lost my shit as well.

It’s clear with recent performance, he hasn’t exactly ‘found’ the players again.

Not endorsing giving the playing group a serve like that after matches but we saw a hell of a response the next week against the Swans. Wonder if that's just coincidence

Stands out doesn't it.

It’s the story of this football club for a decade or more.. systematic pick and choose when to rock up.

something needs to give.
