Because we all go out and buy DVDs of Grand Finals from the 70s and 80s and watch them regularly.

Once again, the point is entirely missed so I have to spell it out. Geez you guys are thick.

The point being .... a lot of people DO have these games on DVD etc, so the marathons don't rate. Simple as that. This is the reason they stopped doing them in the first place.

coincidentally after 2001 when Seven lost the rights

Grand Final Marathon would outrate Guthy-Renker 10 to 1

I'm not thick. I understood what you said perfectly well.

Unfortunately I do not think that many people have old Grand Finals on DVD. You might have the occasional fan that has bought a DVD of a recent Grand Final win, but other than that I think you would be hard pressed to find many people with Grand Finals from the 70s and 80s on DVD.

I can not believe that Danoz Direct would outrate a football marathon. :eek:Do you have any proof of this?

Years ago when they had these marathons, you wouldn't see these games for a year, so they were a novelty. Now they are available on DVD, videos, etc, and we can watch them whenever we please, so there's no need to have the marathons any more.

Disagree Hawk. The marathon was a great build up to the Grand Final. Perhaps I am not as wealthy as your good self and do not have such an extensive DVD collection. ;)

Because most shows rate highly after 11pm.

Bring it back 7 ya tossers!
Do Seven even have repeat rights to those games?
I seem to recall five years ago; during the first year of Nine having the rights; the AFL tried to ensure the games were owned by the AFL and not by the original broadcaster. (I can't remember the outcome, but if the AFL won those rights in the courts then Seven would be understandably reluctant to pay to broadcast what they regard as their own material.)

I'm quite sure they own the historical footage. Perhaps they don't want to replay the old GFs as it might show up the comparative lack of atmosphere generated by their current production.

Watched a little of the Richmond v Brisbane 2001 PF and the quality of the older coverage is superior. Even the graphics were better and they were six years old. Also they had Sandy Roberts commentating and Jason Dunstall doing special comments:thumbsu:
