From the Hawthorn website:

Stratton happy with the big jobs.

Ben Stratton celebrates the Hawks' win over the Swans on Sunday

"WHILE some young players are slowly eased in to their AFL careers, Hawthorn’s Ben Stratton has well and truly been thrown into the deep end, and he has come up swimming."

Re: Ben Stratton. Is he our future Chris Mew?

I am so impressed how he has been improving each week.

He has such composure and reads the game well - good skills, reasonably agile and also unlike many defenders is happy to back himself to take the mark which is so important as a pressure release.

I think the title of this thread is quite apt as he does remind me of chris mew - and what a star he was!

Re: Ben Stratton. Is he our future Chris Mew?

Will make for a good footballer

Still a little iffy on his size (189cm) but has hardly set a foot wrong, being able to mind someone like Goodes is a huge plus, Sure he made a few mistakes but its very promising from Strapon

delirious1 - Croad was around that height.
Croad had a 83cm Verticle leap as well.

I think Stratton is not as suited to take some of the bigger forwards, but hopefully he'll be able to hold down the CHB position

He is by far our best option on the big forwards and will only get better. He has such a good temperament and reads the game so well. Plays for the front position which is refreshing.

Re: Ben Stratton. Is he our future Chris Mew?

Watched the replay last night, thought he did an excellent job.

However, if your opponent has 6 shots at goal, you haven't beaten him comprehensively. (Just think, the occasional opposition supporter that says "Player X beat Buddy" when buddy kicked 1 goal 5, get's laughed at by us)

He's doing well though and as I've mentioned before, it's wonderful that we actually have a Natural Defender! One of the best things I enjoy watching, is his confidence in taking a mark. I'm not sure I've seen him lose a marking contest where he's gone for the mark?

Re: Ben Stratton. Is he our future Chris Mew?

Is he ahead of Gilham now?

2 different match-ups the way I see it, as I am unsure that he could take a Brown or a monster, though you never know?.....his marking yesterday was outstanding and his kicks into the forward line were on the money..

Agreed. To be honest I thought Goodes looked pretty dangerous at times, was at the game but haven't seen the replay on TV. If he kicked well, it could have been a far different story.

Re: Ben Stratton. Is he our future Chris Mew?

Considering the guy has played less than 10 games and he took on a dual brownlow medallist and held his own, i'd say he has been the shining light for the hawks this year. Stratton and Schoenmakers for the next 10 years.. :thumbsu:

Don't know if it's been mentioned already but he took a ripper one hander out on the wing that had me cheering...great game again from the lad

Fair point, but if Hooper, Young, Whitecross, etc had all kicked straight we would have won by 6 goals!

that was a great mark, we were in the mire if he didn't take that, under enormous pressure....:thumbsu:
