They have the best 1-on-1 defender in the comp and the best ruck who usually gives them first hands to the ball. They rely on those two players massively. Nullify those two areas and you can beat them like any other team.

Freo did it first with Sean Darcy taking it up to Gawn.

If we can solve our key defence and ruck issue this off season we won’t even have second thoughts about them next season.
And a setup which takes advantage of the 6-6-6 rule extremely well.

Would love to see the stats on Melbourne's scoring immediately after a centre bounce, they seem miles ahead there.

Demons have given off the vibe that supreme fitness and a nonexistent injury list have been their biggest weapons over the last year and a half. Obviously you take any elite players and a team will struggle but I haven't felt at all like they're the undisputed best team this season and more that everyone else are varying degrees of mediocre to bad.

Fitness and conditioning were the Demon's one wood last year, along with a highly effective structure and game plan. But fitness is fickle, and structures/game plans are forensically picked apart by the opposition and eventually exploited. Happened to us in 2017, it's happening to the Demons now.

That's the thing...yes, Melbourne obviously have some great players, but so do most teams. What brought them success last year was not a list that was head and shoulders better than any other team. It was almost the same list that looked bog average for a couple of years prior. Talent was not their point of difference - not like some of the truly great sides we've seen over the past couple of decades. IMO, now is when the Demon's coaching staff really earn their money. Strategy can get you the jump on the rest of the competition once - and with a bit of injury luck last year, Melbourne were certainly good enough to exploit it. As were we in 2016. How are they going to go when the stars don't align though...when they are the hunted, and there are seventeen other teams picking apart their game style and plotting their demise?

That's why you've got to laugh at talks of a Demon dynasty. Their list is very good, but it ain't that good. I mean, if we're talking dynasties, we're talking the great Brisbane team of the early 2000s, Geelong circa 2007-12 and the Hawthorn team that followed. You can imagine, in particular, the first two of those teams wiping the floor with the current Melbourne line up. The Demons are the type of premiership team that will need to evolve to stay on top. They are not talented enough across the board to plug holes and just keep on doing the same thing that got the job done last year.

Boys. I’ll see you in a week. In the demons thread they’ve got about the dogs.
Had to go and have a look at that - couldn't help myself 😁

Very enjoyable read. Can't believe the time and energy they're putting into it!

Just not sure we can afford to pay all that back rent...😆

Credit where it's due though. There were no thread bans or infractions. They took it all quite well, I think at the end of the day it is all a bit light hearted, though blokes bringing up the historic rape case is probably taking it a little seriously.

Yeah, that is a bit ordinary, isn't it?
Especially when there could well be other historical cases at any, or all, clubs. No organisation is immune, hey?

They are pretty good about our input, for sure. Kudos to them.

Can you imagine how it would go down on some other clubs' boards? 😱

Notice how the group of smartarse Melbourne posters that are active almost daily on the main board go MIA as soon as their team starts having a hard time.
They're wood work warriors mate, their fitness guru left at the end of last year and now it's starting to show.

I hope they miss finals, they won't, but god it'd be funny.

Socceroos!!

Anyone watch that??

How good!!
Peru playing for penalties when they are a much better side was mind boggling. Unfortunately this will paper over the cracks and problems in Australian Football, the team is still one of the worst in history and has zero young talent coming through.

Yep, Arnold is stubborn, drinks his own bath water and surrounds himself with yes men. No structure and delusional tactics. It’s unbelievable that he only has one goalkeeper out there at any point of the game.

Watch Arnold go out and play 11 x 178cm midfielders with a ‘good story’ from the A-League in the World Cup

Peru weren’t the better team today.

They have better players than us but they were very disappointing today.

I predicted pre-game they’d beat us 2-0, but they were very flat, and i thought we outplayed them completely - we may not have created many chances ourselves, but we were easily the better team.

I don’t think Arnold is much chop either, and I doubt we’ll get out of our group, but just for the moment, we can all enjoy the win - it was a great moment.

I’ve got no doubt we’d have won the penalty shootout by a lot more if Arno had’ve played two goal keepers.

Watch Arnold refuse to trade for a goalkeeper when we fall short at the World Cup too.

We need to surround him with assistants who challenge him and aren’t afraid to disagree with him!

Hands down the best Socceroos list of the last 50 years.

If we don’t win the World Cup and the next euRos tournament, it’s a massive faIl by the coach in
My eyes.

Bit worried about France, they’re chock full of stars they got from years of tanking and priority picks.

Great news comrades, Josh Freydenberg may take over as AwFL CEO acc to the teev today
JftBs. Should be a two and a half year snoozefest before he resigns to re-contest Kooyong. :sleepv1:

I wanted them to parachute in Kristina Kenneally - she promised a Choco Royal Commission into the 6-6-6 rule, the Umpire Dissent farce and the outlawing of Third Man Up.

For anyone who hates the liberal encouragement of gambling in the AFL this Media Watch clip is worth a watch (5 mins). It mainly targets Nine's latest escapade but takes a passing swipe at the AFL as well.

Warning - this story contains the "H" word.

Wheels are only coming more off, might be syndesmosis for Gawn.

That ****ing ad has had my media rant meter going to 11 since I first saw it.

Its almost like anybody involved hasn't read points 4-6 of the journalistic code of ethics in this country. So of course such low rent personalities like Damien Barrett and Tony Jones were involved. Indeed the entire cast is almost exactly the rogues gallery of AFLMedia reprobates that one would expect to debase their profession in such a way for a quick buck.

I guess they see their gross hypocrisy and the code as inconvenient to their profiting off riding on the back of Godzilla as it wrecks havoc on the game in particular and society as a whole.

It's all just a bit of fun right?
