Noble finished at North, according to AFL website.
Noble the escape goat :goat:

Noble came in to take over a team which was bottoming out, and is now seemingly being shown the door because they're bottoming out.

North's problems appear to go far deeper than the coach, there seem to be issues everywhere at the top. Not sure who would want to come in and take over the coaching role given the current state.

They’ve lost their last 14 games by an average of 10 goals.

You genuinely don’t believe the coach is a major factor in that?

He’s also lost nearly the whole playing group.

There was nothing about his coaching stint at the Roos that suggested he was the man for the job. The last 2 years have been an absolute shambles on field.

I didn't say that. He's one factor amongst many problems (management, state of the list etc etc), but in my opinion was effectively setup to fail when he took the reigns. I feel for the bloke and don't believe anyone in his position could have done much better.

If he stays in football, I hope we talk to him.

They have lots & lots of other issues. Coaching plays a part in it but IF you were a young draftee, your career isn’t going to be good at North.

They do have lots of issues. The coach being a massive one.

They’d have lost players this off season if he was still their.

I read it that you were suggesting he was unfairly sacked. Which I don’t agree with. In fact, it’s probably the first good decision North have made in a long time and should have made it earlier. Regardless of their massive list of other issues, the coach had done a poor job and has rightfully been given the boot.

Would he be keen on another assistant role? He’s getting on isn’t he? Maybe back to a less hands on position would be preferred. I dunno.

They will still lose players, unless they can get a senior experienced coach to take over. Who would want to stay?

That’s not what’s always required at times like this.

I recall mid last decade one club lost its coach, captain and was heading towards basket case status with a list that was considered pretty average and senior players on their way out. 12 months later they made finals, and another 12 months after that, they won the flag.

North definitely require changes at board level and to bring in experienced senior footballing department personnel, but unless they’re bringing on Clarko, I’d chase the next up and coming senior who’s currently assistant elsewhere.

IIRC, he was an assistant during the Wallace era.
Pretty sure he was rated highly.
Correct, was with us between 1998 and 2002 (not our most successful years, but still). Prior to North he also spent a lot of time at Adelaide and Brisbane. He has a huge amount of experience in assistant and administrative roles, I think he'd be an asset to have on board.

I’d like to confirm that I’m putting my hat in the ring to be Norf coach.

I overheard someone say at my work “Well, they can’t hardly be any worse under Noble, can they?”

Me: “Oh yes. MUCH worse.” 😎
Fox in charge of the henhouse.

Queensland 👍

The AFL can only dream of putting on such a show.
Brilliant performance from both sides but Queensland always find something extra. Yes it's a great show but it's pretty much all the NRL has got. The rest of the year is hard to watch.

No different to many AFL regular season games though. I love Origin, and the way the NRL players strive to play it means it is always a high quality battle, as opposed to second and third tier players. AFL would never get that buy in from clubs or players these days.

Apparently buddy upset over a 1 year 500k offer. I reckon it's about right.

They are saying he wants around $700k-$800k. They gave him a monster contract and had to pay him top dollar through all of the injury trouble he’s had over the last few seasons, before suddenly being able to front up every week now.

If they have offered $500k to keep going, he should take it.

I reckon that’s why the concept failed in the AFL. Supporters put their club ahead of their state so interstate games (including state of origin) were always a bit meh.

The AFL (VFL as it was then) were the ones who came up with SoO games but they couldn't sell it to the fans or the clubs who were more concerned about their star midfielder or full forward getting injured.

The NRL appropriated the concept and made it their own.

43 years and counting. The highlight of their season, even ahead of the grand final.

A bit revisionist DW.
State of Origin was big in the VFL days.
The problem as always was waning interest because SA and WA were poor rivals to the Vics. Without rivalry there is no heart to state of origin.
The stars no longer playing for fear of injury was born from that.

Nope it was definitely a factor back in the day. I was there.

Agree that WA and SA regularly getting beaten was an issue (and what led to the SoO concept) but the whole interstate thing never captured the imagination of the public like it does in NSW/QLD.

It’d be worth pondering why that is so. Certainly it helps that the two states are evenly matched and that Queensland always seem to punch above their weight (sometimes literally!)

Is it more compelling because there are only two teams? Hard to see that as the main reason when competitions like the 5 or 6 nations works so well in RU.

I think proximity is probably a factor. WA was never “just over the border” like the two states divided by the Tweed.

There’s also an underlying north-south antipathy IMO. Not just in relation to football but in everyday life. Queenslanders do things differently and are fiercely proud of the fact, whereas SA and to a lesser extent WA tend to be the little brother and want to emulate what the bigger states do. (Though WA is a bit different these days).
