Tassie Stadium is going ahead, but likely to cost more...

But when did a major government project run on budget?

Over the last 20 years what we have seen is that all stadium new builds or upgrades run way over budget

The increase isn’t just between initial concept and detail design, but also after contract execution.

I expect the actual cost to deliver will exceed contract price to deliver

I reckon the wooden roof is a disaster waiting to happen. From the design pictures, it looks as flimsy as hell and likely to disintegrate in the first decent storm. It would be very cool then. ;)
I'm sure the structural engineers have designed it to code.

It's not the first time it's been done.

Has anyone on here been involved in government contracts?

I have for some projects (nothing like stadiums) and they routinely included contingencies of 25+% for unforeseen costs to cover delays, price rises etc

This is rarely enough

Time is the biggest factor. What is quoted when designs are agreed upon ages out quickly and government departments quibble for years over every detail

Not a stadium, but there's a building in Norway that's taller than anything in Adelaide (not hard i know) that is wooden framed.
Scandinavians do like their wood.

Would have thought harder to maintain though?
