Geelong captain and AFL Players Association president Patrick Dangerfield has declared it’s “time to shorten” quarters, adamant that record ratings and attendances wouldn’t be impacted by saying “reduce the supply and the demand goes up”.

Are they taking a reduction in pay? If not, then nope.

Perhaps time for Dangerfield to retire & start up a T20 equivalent of AFL, where they mike the players up & make it all fancy. Could call in something like AFLX.

If we're being serious, then McLeod's & Voss' position in the team are also questionable, due to the "since the turn of the century" selection eligibility.

Both Macca & Voss played significant parts of their careers before the "turn of the century", and their deeds during the 1990s really shouldn't be considered when selecting this team. Don't get me wrong - both are/were outstanding players and all-time greats - but having careers which spanned the turn of the century limits the games for which they should be judged when selecting this team.

Macca's premierships & Norm Smith medals were won in 1997 & 1998, which is outside the window. However, he did play until 2010, and 4 of his 5 All-Australian selections came in this century.

Similarly, Voss' Brownlow (1996) shouldn't be a factor. However, he was a critical part of the Brions 2001-03 premiership winning team.

Voss retired at the end of 2006, and Macca at the end of 2010. Macca played the majority of his career this century, but the performances for which he is best remembered were last century. Voss' career is divided almost equally between the 20th & 21st centuries, and (Brownlow aside) his best career highlights were indeed this century.

Simon Black's selection is less problematic. He won the Brownlow in 2002, the Norm Smith in 2003, played the bulk of his career in the 21st Century, and all of his AA selections were this century.

It’s time for him to stop trying to control the game
He could easily retire & get back to recording his holiday with the Dangerfields program for channel 7.

Did anyone watch the last series?

Yeah... but as a midfielder, not a small or medium forward.

Danger should still be in the team, but at the expense of one of the other midfielders - probably Selwood.

Thus
Betts replaces Dangerfield
Dangerfield replaces Selwood
Selwood drops out of the team

Betts should defintely be in the team. Whether that's a direct swap with Cyril Rioli, or replacing Selwood via the Dangerfield re-arrangement outlined above, really doesn't matter.

That's fair but you wouldn't have Cripps as a small forward either. Dangerfield could at least play that role if required

And yep I'd absolutely have Dangerfield in the side over Selwood

It's the same thing with AA teams, got to stuff all the midfielders in (which is probably fair, they are generally the best players).

It's not a horrible side, there have been many excellent players. I'd certainly pick Betts over Rioli though. Jonathan Brown is not stiff IMO, every forward they selected is better than him. No slight on his abilities.

Yep. Didn't think Selwood is deserving. Not a name that immediately comes to mind like the others. Just a workman.

I wasn't suggesting that Cripps should be selected in the first place. I was suggesting that the position of small forward should be filled by Betts.

If you let Voss be in, then why not 8x AA brownlod medalist, Roo? Hird & Harvey probably should be salty as well if we're counting the 90's.
That's a fair question.

Voss played 161 games in the 2000s. Roo played 163.
Voss had 3x AA selections in the 2000s (of 5 for his entire career). Roo had 4 (of 8 for his entire career).
Roo was the AA Captain 2x in the 2000s, Voss was never the AA Captain.

The difference is that Voss was the premiership captain 3x in the 2000s, whereas Roo's only flag was in the 1990s (and thus ineligible for consideration).

It would appear that being a Premiership Captain was weighted heavily when making the team selections. It also accounts for Selwood's selection, when Roo (and several others) would seemingly have him covered easily when other honours are considered.
