Interesting story on The Sounding Board today about Ginnivan and Watson and their little side business they have going with 'Hokball'.

They had organised a private coaching clinic with ~40 kids, charging $65 for 45min of skills and then 15min meet and greet. This was scheduled for the Sunday morning just gone, with the Hawks B&F the night before. Anyway, a message is sent out to parents an hour before the clinic that it won't be going ahead as Ginnivan and Watson were 'sick'. Pretty disgraceful behaviour when they scheduled the clinic for this morning weeks out and knew the Hawks B&F was the previous night.

No issue with having a side business outside of footy, but if you are trying to market yourself to kids that idolise you, this isn't great for the brand. Very interesting to see how the Hawks go next year, a lot of fart sniffing going on over there.

Say what?

$700 - 800K

Carlton forward Matt Owies is at risk of being out of the AFL completely in 2025 as the Blues prepare to turn to other small forward options.
Owies, who booted 33 goals in 23 games this season, is out of contract and exploring options at rival clubs, with the Blues seemingly prepared to lose him.

The 27-year-old has met with multiple clubs, including West Coast and Gold Coast, as the trade period begins to heat up.

Officials at rival clubs are expecting Owies’ asking price to be around $700,000-800,000 per season on a multi-year deal, but his management has not engaged in advanced talks with the clubs yet.

The Herald Sun understands Carlton won’t offer that to Owies and is yet to formally put forward an extension.

That was my first thought, but there's no excuse for them to miss it.

Sure, go out and have a few drinks or whatever but you knew you had something on so don't go stupid.

I do recall Mods rocking up 2nd hand to a couple of junior clinics of mine back in the day.... but he still showed up
Der, single mums...like shooting fish in a barrel for Mods

Richmond fans screaming corruption that Jack Graham only got them and end of 2nd round pick

Sounds like fair value to me. Had very little interest and Richmond didn't want to keep him

This is from the Richmond board. I mean yeah, it's probably because Cumming had multiple suitors, got a six year deal on good money. While Graham got a 4 year mid-range deal at the only club interested.
You'd think they'd be high fiving that they got him any pick

Fair crack mate I know it is popular to bash the Hawks small forwards like you're Laird describing "how Adelaide does stuff" but both of the boys are in hospital with severe Covid and that was the reason they couldn't attend the session on Saturday.

Wait, did I say "Covid", I meant "alcohol poisoning"

Owies is GARBAGE, should be grateful he's anywhere near the system at all!

Single mum ??

Swing and a miss on both counts

Seriously, how hard is it to turn up to a coaching clinic that you knew about ??
Would have been the brainchild of their management

The players would have been yeah, yeah sounds good without actually thinking it through. The dollars sound nice.

Never thought about it for a second afterwards. Had completely forgotten about it.

Management sends them a reminder about it through the week.

Oh shit

Yes, it is too late to cancel

Management cleverly made it a 10:30am start so that even if they have a few drinks the night before they'll be right to go. Wrong-o.

The messages between Watson and Ginnivan during the night before / morning after would be entertaining reading. Would have decided together to bail.

A couple of young lads should be right to go by 10:30am after a couple quiet ones. Kids these days.

Exactly right

In fact I'd wager that there's never been an AFL player turn up sober to a morning clinic but they soldier on

A breathmint, sunglasses on.
