Reminded me of that immediately! This seems slightly different in that it's a FA move and hasn't just caught them off guard. If you read a bit further into it, the Saints are not happy with Battle accepting a lower contract at the Hawks that may not get them band 1 compensation (Saints offered more money to keep him too).

Its still a pretty weak reason not to let him come to the BnF.

They also took dud players high in the draft directly before superstars on multiple occasions so it's a bit rich to complain that the draft is unfair when their current side should have both Bontempelli and Petracca in it

Exactly - McEvoy (Pick 9) instead of Danger (Pick 10), Billings (Pick 3) instead of Bont (Pick 4), McCartin (1) instead of Petrecca (2), Clarke (7) and Coffield (8) instead of Naughton (9)...god even further back Armitage (Pick 9) instead of Jack Riewoldt (13)...Ben Long instead of Shai Bolton.....I mean that is Crows level bad recruiting.....but yeah, father-son is the issue....

That looks very petty by St Kilda.

We seem to have moved past that sort of behaviour thankfully.

Battle’s salary around double at the Hawks compared to what he was on at the Saints, and now they whinge that the Hawks are’t paying enough to trigger more compo for them?

You must be kidding me? No sympathy whatsoever.

I always found it to be at its worst in November to January, Feb would be the best month given it has to be done before the main season.

Most of it seems to be making fun of them and pointing out their unrelated failings.

It's a massive deflection from him in an attempt to shy away from their issues. It would be like us saying we've missed finals for 7 years because the grand final is always at the MCG. Yes, not very fair. But not a major reason why we suck

And no, its not comparable. Having select number of teams with massive draft advantages which give them a season advantage not just one game needs to be highlighted by as many people as possible, surprised your objecting to it.

While I agree with a lot of what he is saying, reality is St Kilda are a club who had countless opportunities to win a premiership over the last 30 years, but failed as a result of bad luck / lack of a killer instinct / ultra defensive coaching (hi Ross). They have also made some awful off field decisions, most notably the move to Seaford, and get more financial assistance than any other Victorian club. If we are brutally honest, they shouldn’t exist in a national comp.

But it's also an embarassing sook and a deflection. No one thinks we haven't been able to rebuild because we lack access to father sons.

And at St Kilda it's laughable to whinge about not getting free draft hits when they have been given equalization advantages like pick 1 and blown it.

It would be better to have united front, with us, Port, WCE, Freo saying the same. still, I will take one guy having the balls to call it out over everyone meekly accepting the grossly skewed playing field. It’s a start.
