Have it on VERY good authority both Petracca and Oliver are still very disillusioned at Melbourne. VERY.

If they have another poor year and especially if Goodwin cracks, expect at least one (if not both) gone end of 2025.
You could bank on one of them ending up at Geelong, after all they have the salary cap space to accommodate either of them.

EDIT

And the trade resources too. Late 1st or early 2nd will be their offer.

Can you fill me in on what the knock on Goodwin is specifically? Obviously there are issues at the club. Is is just a general thing like "the club is bad and has culture problems, something must be wrong with the coach", or is there something specific that Goodwin is being accused of?

I dont like the timing of Goodwin leaving Melbourne and Nicks in a pressure cooker year in 2025.

You really haven't heard anything?
He'd probably be the coach with the biggest question mark over his head in the comp.
Makes Clarko look like a Choir Boy!

Yeah, why i don't have the Dees going anywhere next season & expect it to be Goodwin's last

Jobe Watson is the worst commentator I've ever heard in any sport. Can barely string a coherent sentence together let alone give any meaningful insights into football. The absolute dictionary definition of a nepotism hire
Might need a jab to perk him up

I know Goodwin himself is a bit shady and has his demons, no pun intended. From where I sit, he looks like a classic players coach that let things go too far and brought about a breakdown in club discipline.

Dwayne polling well there.

It's funny, he's one of the most hated commentators on BF yet he's well-regared outside of the forum. Make of that you will.
More passive football followers will only know the names of a handful of commentators and he's one of them

Crazy all the shit talk about Goodwin.

2021 - FLAG
2022 - 2nd on ladder.
2023 - 4th (lost their 2 finals by a combined 9 points)
2024 - 14th - 3 games clear of Adelaide.

In 2024 - he loses Brayshaw (4th in their 2023 B&F), Petracca 13 games and Oliver to shit form due to his issues.
Poor bloke effectively lost his engine room in 2024 and still finished above us.

Got the Sando luck of 2013. Can he rebound - it remains to be seen, but have zero idea why he has such a bad rep on this board.

Two of your best players want to walk out, only haven’t due to contract?
Would certainly take his results over the last couple of years though.
And it’s trend even John Who could work out.

Appears the wheels have fallen off & key players want out.

Taken from a premiership & best side to out of a premiership window very quickly.

If Dees struggle again next season, imo his time will be up.

Signs of a good coach that he retained them IMO. How many contracted players have walked out on us? He managed to keep them.

Well its not really.

2021 - 17 wins top 4.
2022 - 16 wins top 4.
2023 - 16 wins top 4.

As a club - that is what you need to aspire to. Top 4 position and hope you are fit / healthy and get the luck of the Irish come September.

His outlier is 2024 - where he lost Brayshaw (unexpected on the eve of the season), had Petracca play 13 games and Oliver a shell of himself.

Nah, them wanting out comes first, they wouldn’t want out in the first place and only reason they are still there is the club holds the whip hand given their two massive contracts and asking price.

It only matters where you finish.

It's a trend we'd give our left arm for

What rubbish. Very Quickly?!?!?!? He won the flag in 2021 then was top 4 in both 22 and 23.

3 of the past 4 years they have finished top 4.

Yes, but no.

Many on here will disagree, but the older I get and the more sport I watch - the more I realize its all about positioning yourself to make a run in the finals/playoffs and hoping to shit you have the rub of the green.

The line between Genius and Failure is extremely thin. Blight would likely be flagless if that goal umpire gives Libba a goal in 1997. Ross Lyon is a premiership coach with a completely different trajectory if that ball to Milne bounces differently.

If you follow "Gridiron" - Nick Foles led his team to 4 playoff wins and beat the Goat in the Super Bowl.

You only have to look at them to see they are a shell of a team/club they were a couple of years ago.
I saw them live in Alice springs get pumped by 92pts with a full strength team.

Really ??

They've turned into a disaster zone since that flag, even then it looked like they held on by the skin of their teeth.

They've gone out in straight sets, have players punching on together, 2 of their best players want out and other has had to retire (not Goodys fault).

They're at an age range where things can fall apart pretty quickly, and if Pickett decides he wants out as well.....

Not rubbish at all!

Were the best team comfortably when they won the flag & have dropped out of the premiership window quicker than expected with plenty of unrest.

Do you seriously think they are still in the premiership window? Seriously?

Dees brought in Ben Brown as a quick fix for their premiership side, but now have one of the worst forward lines... certainly not a premiership contending one.

But of a bigger concern is their best 2 midfielders are both unsettled & have both wanted out.

Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all

We would all take the Dees record of the past decade over ours... but this discussion is about how they are travelling now.
