Would have thought that was a pretty obvious case of religious discrimination.
In SA at least, religion is not a protected category. It is not illegal to discriminate on basis of religious beliefs.Would have thought that was a pretty obvious case of religious discrimination.
Except he resigned and wasn’t sacked.
And he didn’t resign because of his religion. He resigned because his values were not aligned with the values of the Essendon Football Club.

Religions wanted the law written like this so they could say "wanted - priest. Must be Catholic" etc.

His mistake was resigning.
Should’ve told them to go f*ck themselves.

Smart enough to see the writing was on the wall that he would have been a pariah if he remained with his views. His mistake was resigning.
Should’ve told them to go f*ck themselves.
Was he told to leave the church or just the chairman role?
Hahahaha
He was given a choice between his church and his job.
Can’t imagine the case will be too difficult for his lawyers
The chair. the high profile role he held as a public leader of his church
So he didn’t resign because of his beliefs?
Erm, yes. Obviously
So he didn’t resign because of his beliefs?
No, he resigned because he was forced to choose between being chair of his church or CEO of Essendon. Functionally, it’s termination based upon religion. What he personally believes is irrelevant. I know you want him to have gotten his just desserts for his extreme beliefs, but it’s just not going to work that way. He is highly likely to win but at least he’s out of the game.
Exactly. The choice was between being the chairperson on his church’s board or CEO of Essendon.
Nothing to do with his religious beliefs.
Now if it was an ultimatum between attending the church or being CEO of Essendon that’s a different story.
So how is it religious discrimination then?
If he was advised that being the chair of his church clashed with the values of the Essendon Football Club, and he made the decision to resign, that’s his personal choice.
At no stage did Essendon give him the ultimatum of his church or the Essendon Football Club.
