Would have thought that was a pretty obvious case of religious discrimination.

Except he resigned and wasn’t sacked.

And he didn’t resign because of his religion. He resigned because his values were not aligned with the values of the Essendon Football Club.

In SA at least, religion is not a protected category. It is not illegal to discriminate on basis of religious beliefs.

Religions wanted the law written like this so they could say "wanted - priest. Must be Catholic" etc.

From memory he was asked to choose between his CEO role and chairpersonship of that church. Alignment doesn’t matter, discrimination based on religion is specifically against the law. Whether they’re nutters on the fringe isn’t relevant.

Hope that’s not Australian muck in your glass ;)
Australia is the wine capital of the world.

Quality Clare Valley Riesling more interesting than any French champagne imo.

But I would be drinking red wine under 30 degrees.

His mistake was resigning.

Should’ve told them to go f*ck themselves.
Smart enough to see the writing was on the wall that he would have been a pariah if he remained with his views.

His appointment said more about the lack of checks performed by Essendon for even considering him in the 1st place.

Surely they have heard of Google...

Erm, yes. Obviously

So how is it religious discrimination then?

If he was advised that being the chair of his church clashed with the values of the Essendon Football Club, and he made the decision to resign, that’s his personal choice.

At no stage did Essendon give him the ultimatum of his church or the Essendon Football Club.

So he didn’t resign because of his beliefs?

No, he resigned because he was forced to choose between being chair of his church or CEO of Essendon. Functionally, it’s termination based upon religion. What he personally believes is irrelevant. I know you want him to have gotten his just desserts for his extreme beliefs, but it’s just not going to work that way. He is highly likely to win but at least he’s out of the game.

Exactly. The choice was between being the chairperson on his church’s board or CEO of Essendon.

Nothing to do with his religious beliefs.

Now if it was an ultimatum between attending the church or being CEO of Essendon that’s a different story.

If it was chair of the local Anglican mob then the ultimatum wouldn’t have eventuated. It was the views of the church that he was chair of, so that ties in the religious discrimination issue.

Yeah, I’m going to assume that you understand perfectly well
