Luke Hodge went ok.How many number one draft picks win a flag or have a decent career at the club who drafted them?
Raynor is going ok

Not a massive strike rate.Hodge, Nick R, Goddard.
That’s why I’d put geelong up there with hawthorn and west coast, you just didn’t mention them.WCE have 4 as well, spread across the first 3 decades of the AFL era.

Geelong?
But what's the strike rates for other picks? Many gun players never do either. Not a massive strike rate.

Carlton have had plenty of #1's to help their rebuilds lol...So statistically, being the number one draft pick does not guarantee a great career at the club who drafted you.
The reason why is because you start your career at the worst club. So behind all the other top draftees in terms of developing once your career begins.

It's very red.How bad is the essendon jumper
Never played in a GF though.Cooney was decent at the dogs
Turns out winning a flag is incredibly difficult. Alternative is to send the best talent to the best clubs?Never played in a GF though.
The theory is that we give the bottom clubs the best young talent in the draft to help that club win a flag.
Reality is that this rarely works.

Yes my response is you can’t say hawthorn and west coast without having geelong in the equation.Since the 90's, WC only one of two clubs to win a flag in each decade. Given WC had to do it away from perth they are the best club in AFL history IMO.
Yes I know; that’s why geelong deserve to be mentioned with west coast and hawthorn as the best clubs in the afl era.WCE have 4 as well, spread across the first 3 decades of the AFL era.

Pick 1 rarely turns out to be the best in the draft. I’m not convinced it’s because they have to develop at the bottom side either. Though it likely doesn’t help.So statistically, being the number one draft pick does not guarantee a great career in terms of GF/Premierships at the club who drafted you.

Didn't adelaide re-sign walker after his performance against wc? He is an obviously beneficiary from wc long run of poor form.Feel sorry for WC. I know people say you can't blame injuries but that's crap. They've been royally ****ed and 3/4 of their 22 aren't AFL standard. Their experienced players are mostly cooked as well. Tough times.
Yes my response is you can’t say hawthorn and west coast without having geelong in the equation.
All won 4 flags
What year?Didn't adelaide re-sign walker after his performance against wc? He is an obviously beneficiary from wc long run of poor form.
Think I’d put geelong above hawthorn, more grand finals?I would have WC first, Hawthorn, Geelong and then Brisbane.
