So statistically, being the number one draft pick does not guarantee a great career in terms of GF/Premierships at the club who drafted you.

The reason why is because you start your career at the worst club. So behind all the other top draftees in terms of developing once your career begins.

The VFL would be desperate to get Carlton a premiership. They gifted Richmond their 2017 premiership which gave them the momentum to win another 2. About time Carlton had a crack...then Essendon.....Need those big Vic clubs to be successful.

Since the 90's, WC only one of two clubs to win a flag in each decade. Given WC had to do it away from perth they are the best club in AFL history IMO.
Yes my response is you can’t say hawthorn and west coast without having geelong in the equation.
All won 4 flags

WCE have 4 as well, spread across the first 3 decades of the AFL era.

Yes I know; that’s why geelong deserve to be mentioned with west coast and hawthorn as the best clubs in the afl era.

Pick 1 rarely turns out to be the best in the draft. I’m not convinced it’s because they have to develop at the bottom side either. Though it likely doesn’t help.

But what's the strike rates for other picks? Many gun players never do either.
Not sure.

But my initial point is that I feel for the kid going to WCE with the expectation he will make them better.

Statistically they don't.

WCE probably the best club a number one draft to land at though.

Feel sorry for WC. I know people say you can't blame injuries but that's crap. They've been royally ****ed and 3/4 of their 22 aren't AFL standard. Their experienced players are mostly cooked as well. Tough times.
Didn't adelaide re-sign walker after his performance against wc? He is an obviously beneficiary from wc long run of poor form.
