I copped a horrible concussion playing school footy which cut my footy playing days very short.

I consider myself lucky for "being a pussy" and saying yeah, nah to any more. Decided that between tennis and StarCraft: Brood War I had far healthier things to ruin my schooling with by obsessing over.

The last time I was concussed was 3rd v 4th knockout final. Head down collecting the ball after a ruck contest and actually remember the bloke who’d run through to collect me being right there. I was absolutely pissed that I spent 3 and a bit quarters on the bench in a game we lost by a couple of goals. As far as I was concerned I took the hip to the head, got up and went off for a breather. I only found out a couple of years ago that I was out for a couple of minutes.

Is Lenny Hayes coaching the Saints today? Nine goals to quarter time!

This doctor needs to be removed.

It’s not funny.

He has a history, a really bad record of putting players at risk.

Players association should be all over it.

They were both concussed. 100%. One more serious than the other, but both players should have been removed from the game.

Ken saying “Alir was fine to talk to” Is embarrassing.

I’d love to hear some other opinions on this from other doctors.

Let’s hope it explodes next week, so that this pathetic pattern can stop.

As you have mentioned, Players Association should be all over this.

Not that this is anything ground breaking or something we don't all already know, but I spoke with a friend who is a doc for an AFL club this morn. He was pretty clear that the Port doc has f***ed up massively on this. Suspects the AFL Chief MO will come over the top and force Port to sit Aliir and Jones out for the mandatory 12 days.

And hopefully up the ante with a fine significantly bigger than $20k. Take it out of their soft cap next year.

The way this season is panning out he’s as likely as any to be wearing a premiership medallion come the last day in September.

Looks like one of those transition seasons where there isn’t a truly great side. Collingwood are close but behind them another 10-12 teams are pretty even

Sam Frost isn’t the most intelligent footballer

Yep so do I, so you can imagine my surprise when I saw the Port player sitting on the bench as if everything is fine.

As you said, they wreck you.

There is going to be an investigation into Port's handling of those two players. Watch this space.

That vision of Jones lying on his back with his hands up is damning. That is classic concussion - as taught in every first aid course.
Not to mention the way Aliir immediately went limp and fell to the deck.
Indefensible.

Remember when the AFL forced Doedee to miss a game despite passing all concussion protocols on game day, that night, the day after etc....and then they did the same with Chelsea Randell?

This is the absolute minimum they should do.

I had a game when I was 17 playing A grade country footy, where I was knocked out 3 times in the one game. The first two I woke as the 'trainer' got to me. The 3rd time I was sent to hospital in an ambulance. Was discharged a few hours later and went to the club for a few drinks.
Fair to say I woke up a bit groggy the next day.

I'm ok now though.

oh wait

Hang on

No the voice in my head said I'm not.

According to Jon Ralph, AFL Medical Officer Michael Makdissi is reviewing footage of the incident that saw Port's Adelaide's club doctor Mark Fisher declare Aliir Aliir fit to return to the ground after a head clash with team-mate Lachie Jones.

Port Adelaide Football Director Chris Davies says both players were cleared of concussion this morning, and that Fisher was more concerned with a broken jaw or neck injury for Aliir. However, if the AFL review the incident and determine that a concussion test should have occurred then Davies said they will accept that ruling.

Port are screwed. How they’ve missed the memo about concussions is bewildering. AFL have done everything they can to try and say ‘see, concussions is the most important issue for us’. The club just stuck their nose up. With the media attention on this they’re going to have to come down hard to say this is unacceptable and not approved by the AFL, less they want the vision to be played in a court room.

Chris Davies, he's oh so credible!

I'd hope the doctor gets sacked too. Or at the very least they have an AFL doctor with them for a minimum 2 years to walk them through it.

I can see in the future they will need an independent AFL doctor to do the head injury assessments.
