Doc should be expelled from the league if they’re serious.

Someone should investigate Ports opponents when players get concussed and the players that get concussed.

I wouldn't be surprised if they only get taken off when the game is won or when it's a winnable game. And they don't get taken off when it's a must win game and the player is extremely important to them winning.

Would be a total pisstake if the league just take this at face value and move on. If he did undergo an HIA he had to be off for a minimum of 15 minutes and he wasn't - pretty clear cut case.

The HIA is just the Medico assessing the vision and deciding if a concussion test (SCAT5) needs to take place. The actual test takes 15 minutes. So Ports Dr looked at that vision and made the call that only Jones required further assessment - which is mind boggling if true.

I doubt they even did a concussion test or if they did Sunday morning they will hide it under doctor patient confidentiality. Port are a genuine scum club.

The AFL cant just rule a test should have occured. Port must get punished. Its a reoccurring history with Port that no other club has even done once, yet Port have had 4 to 5 players over time magically act like concussion isnt a thing. The sheer fact they didnt do the test on Aliir is enough to rule him out for the week and suspend the Dr. He is either arrogant enough to ignore the AFL directives or he is following instructions from the coaching staff to manipulate the situation against the players interests. The AFL have to investigate this as its history repeating. I'd even go so far as Port should be draft sanctioned. Its inexcusable.

A good result. A win, the young players all did well and we keep that lovely percentage gap (17%) in check. Happy days.

If the doctor saw the vision, and determined that no concussion test was required, he must have determined:

(a) Neither player lost consciousness at all (as this would require immediate withdrawal from the game, and entering concussion protocols - subbed off.

and also determined that NONE of the below were apparent:

b. Requires immediate removal from play for further assessment (including SCAT5)

10. Lying motionless (for > 2 seconds)
11. Possible no protective action in fall to ground
12. Possible impact seizure or tonic posturing
13. Possible motor incoordination
14. Possible dazed, blank/vacant stare
15. Possible behaviour change atypical of the player
16. Any clinical impression or uncertainty from the club doctor that the player is not quite right following trauma


re: 11 - this is "it's possible that the player didn't protect themselves in the fall", if it's definite that this has happened, that is withdrawal from the game immediately, like (a) above.

Not that this is anything ground breaking or something we don't all already know, but I spoke with a friend who is a doc for an AFL club this morn. He was pretty clear that the Port doc has f***ed up massively on this. Suspects the AFL Chief MO will come over the top and force Port to sit Aliir and Jones out for the mandatory 12 days.

This is why we as not doctors have every right to question the doctors call

Media are dancing around not wanting to question a doctors integrity, but this checklist isn’t a medical degree needed determination. We all have the same knowledge/vision to assess against and no one outside port are debating what decision they would have made

Yeah agree there should be some sort of sanction on the club. He did also suggest this, But that's up for debate.
Maybe strip them of a second or third pick? Give them less currency to deal with. I really don't know.
But also I hate port and it'll probably be nothing that severe in reality. Just wishful thinking

Yeah that's why they take the oath. that's why they are paid so well. They should be scrutinised. They have a great deal of power and responsibility. Giving them a free pass because 'they're a doctor' doesn't cut the mustard.

I tend to agree. However, when questioning an expert in their field, you need actual evidence.

And I guess that's what people are trying to convey with "trust the Dr."


However, there is abuntant evidence to ask questions.

a) Clear head knocks with high impact.
b) Clear vision showing loss of consciousness.
c) Port have form in this area.
d) A clear protocol written is easy to understand way that doesn't need a medical degree to interpret.
e) Aliir was uncoordinated at times. There were two occasions where hee spun 180 ro change directions and he looked proppy or unsteady.... Happy for a 2nd opinion but he lacked balance/coordination in the passage of play where he ran into the behind post. The other time was just a few minutes prior.
f) AFL is a high stakes competitive environment and biases creep in.


All of these mean any reasonable person who witnessed the head clash can validly ask the question "Why did Aliir come back on?" "Why wasn't protocol adhered to?"
