Former AFL boss Gillon McLachlan is in the box seat to be the new chairman of Racing Victoria.
Racenet can confirm that while McLachlan has not yet officially accepted the position, he is the preferred candidate of Victoria’s Racing Minister, Anthony Carbines.
Carbines’ office would not comment on Monday afternoon.
However, multiple sources confirmed McLachlan had beaten a field of more than 10 other candidates to be offered the position.
McLachlan was first mooted as a likely replacement for former chairman Brian Kruger as early as August last year. Mike Hirst has been acting in the chairman’s role since last July.

Given I don't give a shit about horse racing, this is fine by me.

No coincidence Gil needs to remain close to the betting companies...

Is this soccer football or AFL football lol.

I have seen United be floated. There are united basketball teams, could work with the history of Hobart/Launceston divide in Tasmania.

It's surely going to be the Devils. AFL have already registered Tasmanian Devils a few years back, I think.

Are you aware of the Romping Wins bigfooty story?

😄
No.

Feel free to fill me in.

Edit - just checked & gather this is referring to Hamish updating his own wiki page as self absorbed.

There's a 164 page hread about Hamish, Trent Cotchin's dog being run over, the driver not stopping, Wikipedia pages being updated by Hame, a horse called Romping Wins etc.

It's all very vague in my mind, but I remember it being pretty funny.

Well, there goes racing.

And I couldn't care less.

Cool, the powers that be think we should have more rule changes based on a one off incident.

AFL footy boss Laura Kane said that the smother change was one of many that has made the game safer, while football as a spectacle has continued to improve.

“We want to make the game safer, we want to make the game better,” she said.

“We have seen over the past couple of years an evolution of the on-field product. The game is as good as it has ever been. It is a spectacle, it is exciting, it is fast but at the same time we have made over 30 changes to the rules and regulations to make it safer. So we can do both things at once.”

"Game is as good as it has ever been"...fmd.

I was hoping they'd have their hands full dealing with Tarryn Thomas to have any time left to change rules

The problem with these reactionary rule changes is that at the start of the of the season they generally make a an example out of a fringe player but then they are forgotten about at the end of the season when a big name player has done it by accident.

I wonder which Crow player will be charged with a dangerous smother early season and be suspended for 10 games as an example to others...
