TBH i enjoy NFL and I am a huge fan of many soccer teams. But what I hate is people promoting the NFL like its this god sport when in fact its so ******* overrated its a joke.

Each to their own. In recent years my interest in AFL has waned and horse racing is probably my number 1 sporting interest now. Plenty have no interest in that sport but I love it.

For me I have no interest in NFL. Firstly the idea of following a sport in a completely different continent and time zone is just nuts. Zero connection to the teams, just a weird on the outside looking in type feeling, never fully emersed. You're mostly watching replays, almost no live sport, never ever attending games.

Yeah even though I'm listening to it, I don't understand the appeal of NFL. weird game, too tactical/analytical and stop-start. I feel like it's a very en-trend sport. Seeing/hearing friends/acquaintances get emotional about the sport really grinds me. It just seems so contrived.

the half time show is the only reason its so popular world wide. But its certainly not an appealing sport. the stop start nature of it is unnecessary.

This is my feelings on Cricket …..Its only a filler in off season ratings …. talk about stop / start …and role players

Cricket used to be exciting ….. now, it’s elevator music for those brainwashed into the sport
Game is played for no table, no prize, and no recognition, worth remembering

What has killed it is the change in the summer format. What was successful was tests, one dayers and shield cricket playing right through december January. What has killed my interest in cricket is the BBL. Removing shield cricket from the december january calendar, not having one dayers until after the test series and tour games have vanished. T20 is a cancer on cricket more than its the cure.

It's one of those sports where the devil is in the detail. Unless you've grown up playing and/or watching it, or have spent a considerable time learning the intricacies of it, it just looks like a mash of players.

I actually learnt the game playing a board game simulator of it when I was a kid. Once you understand the tactics and counter plays, and know where to look, it becomes a far more interesting sport.

Nah, its all dumb and overrated. I can see your point but the over celebrating is the stupidest thing ive seen. It really shows its all showmanship more than actual substance.

Well naturally anything USA is full of over celebrating and showmanship. The game itself is far from dumb.

Feel the same about cricket, almost zero interest in it right now.

For me could be a bit of an age thing, think cricket is like baseball in the US. Kids and older people love it.

One of the highest scoring T20 matches ever at AO last night. I couldn't have been less interested.

As I said I see your point. But essentially defenders are allowed to trip their opponents, allowed to take cheap hits to the ground which in my view diminished the game. If defenders were made to actually show some sort of skill instead of doing anything they want id happily agree with you. But the fact they celebrate a cheap tackle like its the best thing since sliced bread again shows its not hard. Rugby players would easily pass their way through an NFL defence. The fact the NFL dont take more from rugby only proves its not the greatest tactical sport.

The fact you're comparing it to rugby shows you don't understand the game at all. That's fine, you barely understand AFL 😜

I think the chess comparison is apt - it's a very technical sport, and therefore one which can be unappealing to those looking from the outside in.

The biggest problem is the stop-start nature of the game. A game of American Football has only 60 minutes of play, with just 18 minutes of "live action", spread out over an average period of 190 min. In contrast, an AFL game has approximately 120 minutes of play, with 80 minutes of "live action", spread over (roughly) 2.5 hours. That's roughly 10%"live action" time for NFL, vs roughly 80% for AFL.

The stop-start nature of the game makes it virtually unwatchable to me, but there are millions of Americans who disagree.

Source for NFL game times:

AFL - Quarters are 20 minutes, plus time on. Most quarters last around 30 minutes, though some last considerably longer - particularly if there is an injury which requires the player to be stretchered from the field.

Best athletes from 200 million people though - you get guys who are 6'8", 290 pounds, and faster than Patty Dangerfield

But an NFL offence can pass backwards to run the ball through a defence. Which is exactly like rugby. it was shown this superbowl. So it can be a tactic and is used. Im saying it can be used a lot more.

As for the AFL comment, well that maybe but I clearly understand more than others. ;)
