😂 I remember,¥………… quick story, I remember Bomber Clifford giving me one, so the intention was to square up. The opportunity presented so I graciously returned the compliment and just said “ that’s an evener up” his reply was “ we never finish even Cleanhands” but at the final siren he comes up and shakes your hand and says” the first beer is on me” and was true to his word

Or you could’ve said: “Let me introduce you to my friend, Garry McIntosh”

I've watched the incident and honestly, not sure how anyone can expect spp to avoid the collision. It was a football collision and he should be free to play.
He had plenty of time to choose and execute to lean his shoulder in. In that time he could have also:
  • not leaned his shoulder in
  • deviated slightly and avoided contact
  • halted his momentum a bit and braced (likely gets cited, but maybe doesn't knock him out)
  • halted his momentum a bit and also try to tackle (likely high free kick)

If you can't deviate slightly in that time then you wouldn't be playing AFL. He chose to bump.

say GIF

The most charitable thing you could say about it, was that he would’ve got away with it in about 1997.

Sadly, he wasn’t born then.

Knew an old school umpire who said ' right you've both had one each next one goes in the book '' and the play continued without any more fuss
Ha ha👍Yep having a kick and catch in a lower standard was coping a lot of lip non stop from a real w***** so not proud of it split it open, he then squeals to the umpire who casually says to him “ I thought it was well deserved

I was thinking the 1989 GF - in todays rules, there were about 150 free kicks in the 1st quarter alone

But then according to some logic on the port board, how could Yeates have avoided the collision with Dermie

SPP kind’ve had shades of Roo on Adam Selwood 2005.

Most costly suspension in Crows history.

There was a guy that came across from I think Carlton to the legs guessing mid 90’s McCormack or something similar name just escapes me, was one of the best exponents of the shirt front (regularly)I can recall

Roger Delaney can confirm

What I miss most is the consequence of an action. No not games missed but the return game and the pay back

The elbow behind play. What annoys me is nothing ever happens to personally remind a player they went too far.

Yep, a totally different game. Those who did not grow up in the 80s or 90s would not recognize it.
One of my earliest memories of going to the footy was at the Parade when the infamous brawl broke out before a ball had been bounced, due to the fact that Centrals thought it would be a good idea to warm up at Norwood's end.

Memories of Gary McIntosh and Lester Ross pinning Gilbert McAdam against the fence and taking turns belting him, and me being right there behind the fence (back when there was cyclone fencing behind the goals). If I recall correctly it made the front page of the Sunday Mail and I reckon my brother and I were in the background!

If that happened today there would be bans galore!

I think it may have continued on down the race at half time, or could have been another time v Centrals

I had a very similar circumstance with Martin Pike when he was at Norwood. He got me (got 3 weeks), I got him back (0 weeks :D), he bought the first of many beers after the game. Nutter on the ground, great bloke off the ground.

I worked with Bomber for the first 18 months of my 39 year banking career. Oh the stories I could tell.
