Is he even worth a spot on your list. I would rather an untried 18 year old.

Petty is a very average.
Wait & see.

Don't judge him on the now as he is getting over a severe injury.

Another reason why best waiting a bit before deciding to whether go hard for him.

Cummings & Hayward are FA next year & more of a need.

So glad the AFL are pushing ahead to dilute the talent pool even further.

What a shitshow most games are.

How about reduce the ELITE NATIONAL competition to 12 teams and watch the skill level increase.
Personally prefer 16 teams.
30 games H&A equitable draw.
Reserves competition.
Bigger squads to manage increased games.

Is Ed Langdon a free agent?

Most games of football are absolutely dire nowadays… not sure how to fix it but perhaps teams should get a bonus point if they score 100 points+ - win, lose or draw. Win by 50 points+ get another bonus point.

Haven't watched much/any of the game, but that Pickett kick inside 50 just then was something our forward line could only dream of receiving.

Petty doing the right thing and personally tanking hard
He's had an awful start to the season

I like him but geez if this is what he's going to dish up with workload scaled back after his foot injury would you bother?

He's been Billy Frampton level bad as a forward

Wouldn't bother unless he was free

Being played out of position and heart not in it, he’s not the first player to look horrible after a failed trade request.

Looks more mental than physical, reminds me a lot of how Jesse Hogan looked in his later days at Freo when the player is just going through the motions and hearts not really in it at the club it makes it very hard to judge as a player. Change of environment will hopefully sort out his issues.

Played the best 6 possession game in AFL history.

Nope. We are demanding a better club than the garbage we have endured over the last two decades so we must demand we do better than Harisson Petty.

The problem is though that we don't need a key defender

It's the one area of the ground that we have some young talent performing well plus some depth cover.

So Petty would have to play forward. I actually think we need a forward of his type - a clunker who can be the Long option down the line.

Thilthorpe is better using his tank and roaming far and wide and Fog is better on the lead.

Need a bailout option between the arcs and also in the F50 and certainly ROB is currently useless in this regard.

However Petty hasn't looked a forward's arseh*le this season. Whether that's just due to a long term injury and interrupted preseason...? Would be quite a risk trading this year.

He’s a defender though, no more of those
While I definitely think Petty’s a defender he still can be handy enough if needed up forward for stints just not as the main/deepest tall option which Melbourne has ended up playing him as this year, he’s better served as more of a lead up and back forward or as the 2nd/3rd banana it’s just that van Rooyen prefers to roam around with no responsibility and has minimal leading pattern knowledge (like he’s playing for the Crows) which meant Petty has been stuck as a deep option which has caused him big issues.

While the team doesn’t exactly need another key defender like I said in the trading thread it would free up one of Murray or Worrell who I will always strongly believe given the lack of marking prowess and forwards who can fly for a mark one of them is needed up forward.
