I'd have gone with this graphic myself to illustrate the tanking point...

Currently only have 6 (including Amon) players over 26 on the list.

I thought Hartigan was staying on - turns out he's also been delisted.

That's an impressive cull, let's see if premiership coach Sam Mitchell knows what he's doing.

Chad Wingard isn't even 30 but he's now the second oldest player on the list, wonder how often that has happened in AFL history.

This is a perfect illustration of how a team gets stuck in a 5 year plus rebuild. It's not the fact they pushed an old list far to win flags, but more that they stuffed up their initial rebuild. The traded for guys like Omeara, Mitchell, Vickery and Patton who aren't there anymore. Due to using draft capital on trades, they had to recruit young guys in the second/third/fourth round, many of which haven't made it.

Now the players that were in that mid/late 20s bracket (Breust, Gunston) are over the hill and they need to clean them out too. It feels like they need another 3 seasons of good drafting to get the list profile right.

Let's hope we nail the draft this year and next, or we will be going the same way.

Giving off Demon/North vibes where they culled all their senior players and it left the younger generation exposed too much and set back their development.

The Purples are tempting fate by having traded out BOTH Lobb & Meek.

Other than Darcy and Jackson they don’t have much ( if any ) ruck depth should, one of the fore mentioned go down.

They have doubled down on midfield strength with OMeara, however with the departure of Lobb, Meek and Logue the talls on the list have take a hit .

Acres and Mundy got a lot of the ball last season, will be interesting to see who pick those roles up.

I am surprised by what the purples did,
I think they may regress a tad in 2023, Amiss is going to have big shoes to fill and it’s hard to see Son Son having the same year he had in 22.

So who’s going to kick the goals that will be needed to get enough winning scores ?

Draft well, make finals, then start plugging hole with astute trades ala Chick, Stenglein, Jetta and Redden.

While I still reckon the Kelly trade was the right call AT THE TIME, I really don't think we're going to pull a trade like that (which is what the Jackson trade was for Freo) before we've gone all the way. Too many clubs have thought they were nearly there, spent big on trades, and end up with nothing to show for it but more years of pain. It's how Crazy Vossy got his name, after all. Would be 100 times worse to do it now when we're the worst team ever (Norf don't count).

This is the worst I've ever seen Hawthorn's list, and I grew up watching Peter Schwab coach them.
Big call by the Hawks to bottom out think most have mentioned the pitfalls already.

Even bigger if your target is Harley Reid cause as we found out this year you can be going really bad as a club but then North enter the room and say hold my beer….

What they did circa 2017-2019 is exactly what we have avoided lately. Booted/pushed a few champions (Mitchell, Lewis, Hodge) and traded in replacement players (O'Meara, Mitchell, Wingard, Impey) instead of drafting. Probably because Clarkson couldn't stand losing. Has been a disaster.

Who could they have had with the picks they offered up to secure those players? Would be interesting to compare.

Well I have been through this in another thread, but just saying who they could of possibly had would make any trade look like the worst ever. But just going by who was picked at those picks (yes I know not the absolute best way to judge - see other thread):

O'Meara for 2016 pick 10 and 2017 F2 = Jack Bowes (lol) + Liam Ryan (I think)
Mitchell for 2016 pick 14 (turned into pick 16) = Todd Marshall (I'm ignoring the pick swap because CBF)
Wingard for 2018 pick 15, 35 + Ryan Burton = Jordan Clark, Bailey Williams, Burton
Impey + Dylan Moore (67) for 2017 33, 61 and 2018 F4 = Tom McCartin, Joel Garner (?) + a pass I think.

I think I got those right.

Richmond have delisted Sydney Stack.

A shame as he has the talent, but obviously lacks the dedication.
Doubtful he will get picked up IMO.

Congratulations to Chris Judd on being inducted into the Australian Sport Hall of Fame. But really I’m only pointing this out because they just a photo of him in a West Coast jumper to accompany the announcement
