I been watching this hard done by fremantle winge fest with some interest.

What I think is that AFL premierships are extremely hard to win.Harder even than winning the big bash or the shield or the NBL.Even Victorian clubs find it very hard to win AFL premierships despite having the deck stacked in their favour .I mean we have won four of them but would have a few more premierships if all playing fields were fair and equal. But your dealing with Victoria and their rules and that's the way it is.
The Eagles come at the AFL with an attitude that states we are good enough and professional/determined enough to win the premiership and build a team capable of winning a premiership no matter what we have to come up against.
Fremantle won't win a premiership. They winge too much and don't realise you need to be much much better than them in all aspects from coach down and not just competitive and hope for a bit of luck and things being fair and equal because they are not. That's what I think.

I think the game was gone before the dissent free kick.

Still think the free kick should be in the centre square.
Also, Jackson's ruck knock was terrible.
was still about 40s left after the first goal. Whats leighs equation?

agree free kick should be in the centre. that is a fukn harsh penalty to pay. I wonder what the rule is there. If you were playing that 'lock it in' game could you deliberately dissent a goal umpire in your forward line and give them the ball in their backline?

few posts on social media this morning that I cbf watching because i'm at work - is there anything in the audio about whether it should have been dissent or not?

Didn't look like he had lost the plot, wasn't waving his arms around screaming, see instances of dissent let go every game, a warning would of probably been sufficient.*

*But if as reported he's a serial offender maybe he'd run out of warnings.

The rule is that it's the biggest penalty possible. So if you abuse the ump after a goal in your forward line it will go back to the middle for the free kick to be taken. In Freo's instance the biggest penalty is obviously directly in front of goal.

This is very true.

I was looking back over past seasons and came to this conclusion also.
Lately we have had to deal with the Vic Metro mamas woossie boy problem. We all know that if a series of WA kids refused to leave Perth the AFL would act. But Wardlaw, Sheezel etc. can basically draft tamper and nothing is said or done.

Historically we have been stacked against by having to play what should have been home finals at the MCG and having to travel for the last 4 or 5 H&A games. While that scheduling thing has been reduced we have still been up against fresh teams that haven't left Melbourne for the last 7 or more H&A games.

What is obvious is that not only are we fighting the AFL and stay at home potential draftees and stay at home clubs like Richmond and Collingwood, we are fighting the travel curse. When two teams travel twice as often and/or twice as far as any other it takes a toll. Look at a few seasons as examples. Look how we fall off the cliff after mid season. The same happens to Freo.

1999 - top after 14 rounds. Won 1 game from that point on to finish 6 games behind minor premier Essendon. Played a home final against Carlton at the MCG to bow out.
2000 - mid season were 5th, 2 games off 2nd. Won 1 game from that point to finish 13th.
2002 - after 11 rounds ( 1/2 season) were 2 games off top. Staggered into the finals on percentage, 7 games behind Port.
2003 - after 13 rounds only 1/2 a game off top. Ended up 5 games off top.
2007 - mid season a game clear on top. Finished 3 games behind Geelong.
2010 - only 1 win after round 8.
2012 - top after 12 rounds. Finished 5th.

I can't help but feel that if we didn't have the end of season scheduling we had and had a fairer deal with home finals in the 90's we would have won in 1990, 1991 and at least one of 1995 or 1996 as well.
I also believe that if we had the Richmond schedule (impossible I know) of the late 2010's, we would have had a better shot at multiple flags. Even making the big Melbourne clubs travel more equitably would help.

The AFL is a semi-professional sporting body and they know that travel affects recovery, enhances injury risk and shortens playing careers. They know WC and Freo suffer this burden unfairly, but still do nothing.

The simplest solution would be to allow (OUTSIDE THE SOFT CAP) WC and Freo to lease a 737/A320 type of aircraft for the season. Kit it out with only 50 odd seats and a recovery/massage/medical room and use it week about.
I can imagine the whingeing from some clubs. But offer them the same deal. If you're willing to travel across the country every second week, suffer shortened careers, suffer additional injuries etc. then you too can have a plane.

I think I've said it before but the level of introspection and navel gazing by the VaFL is just as bad, if not worse than it was in the early 90's. SA and WA clubs are NPC, walking wallets in "their" game and NSW and QLD are there to be funded on the sly to generate disproportionate talent pools to be milked for Victorian advantage outside of the supposed equalisation policies.

Finlayson gets 3 games. Just a month ago, Clarkson got a fine and a suspended 2 matches.

Why the inconsistency? I'm a bit confused.

Maybe it's deemed a bigger punishment to keep coaching the shit show that is Norf :cute:

Coz the AFL admin is scared of Clarko - they know he could just walk from their broke-arse baby if they annoy him too much, so they gotta make sure they keep him happy.

The AwFL have created this.

Clarko gets off with basically a slap on the wrist.

The AwFL knew they had to suspend the player....eventhough what was said by the two people were similar.

What a joke.

One plays for an interstate team.

The other coaches a Victorian team.

No inconsistency here, same VFL.

Fairness however...
