This is from an article from Eyebrows Ralph in the Herald Sun/Code highlighting how Richmond are down to just 28 fit players which is only marginally more than we had at times last year (think are lowest was 25 available)

We still sit =7th on this list despite having a better run than recent years

Port have basically been at full strength through the first 5 rounds
Surprisingly on the weekend Richmond's team was half a year older with 5 players 21 and under compared to our 8

Looking a bit like us from a couple of years ago with a lack of young high end talent

A lot of their younger role players from 17-20 are now senior guys without having gotten any better. The guy who towelled Barrass up is also 25, quite the mature aged recruit.

Nathan Murphy from the Pies the latest to call it time due to concussion.

Said to my mate who's a Tiges fan. They're eerily similar to where we were at a couple years back.

One of the oldest lists in the comp. Grimes, Prestia, Martin and Lynch are all the wrong side of 30. Vlastuin and Nankervis hit 30 this year. Obviously some high profile retirements last season, and can't seem to stay fit. Young players being blooded too early out of necessity. Some decent young guys there, and a few real good players in the middle of their careers but lacking high end talent like you said. Will probably be one of the clubs done hardest with having to rebuild around Tassie.

I don't think it is any kind of coincidence. Both clubs bottomed out with wooden spoons in 09 and 10, both won the premierships from 17-20, it makes sense that they are also bottoming when we are. The only reason they are a bit behind us in rock bottom is better durability to players.

From this point of view Richmond might give us a glimpse into the alternate reality of us avoiding our injury crisis. It could turn out to be a blessing that we were forced to go rock bottom early and start picking up top talent, as I think we'll be back competing well before them.

I honestly feel like, with the incoming adoption of the Tassie team, that NOW is the time you want to bottom-out and load up on talent.

I wouldnt want to be an aging club come 2027 and on the way down the ladder. You would be F*CKED for years.

So who's in most trouble three years from now? GWS? St Kilda?

I mean its hard to tell - they could sweep a draft clean of a bunch of 18yo future HOF-ers through sheer luck.

But I would rather be sh*t now and improving in 2028, than be mid-table and on the slide in 2028.
