A doctor can hear a punctured lung through a stethoscope. You'd think a doctor would have his medical bag somewhere close by, at least in the rooms.Again, we ask how a club doctor can tick that off? Understand they didn’t have the benefit of xrays, but his acute pain might have been an indicator?
And if he could only return by being jabbed (overlooking the wisdom of that) surely that is the definition of performance enhancing?

Probably borrowed the Geelong Dr.A doctor can hear a punctured lung through a stethoscope. You'd think a doctor would have his medical bag somewhere close by, at least in the rooms.
Doctor isn't going to hear a broken rib, nor even necessarily detect one. But sure as hell can hear the air gurgle from a punctured lung, if they listen with their stethoscope. I had 8 broken ribs, all down my right side, (and a broken collarbone and cracked pelvis, and a delayed collapsed lung), and the ambo's said they couldn't detect any broken ribs. They sure has hell could see the collarbone though. Top two ribs snapped outwards, and I still have two lumps you can feel, where they healed. The other six broke down the side, under my arm, so I had floating broken ribs there, as each rib was in 3 pieces. Not only that, but four - not just cracked - but broken ribs.

Won't go the whole story, but the surgeon wanted to wait 3 months for my ribs to heal, then re-brake my collarbone to fix my shoulder. I was like, nah heck that. So my right shoulder is now almost 10mm narrower than my left, and I didn't have wide shoulders to start with. Otherwise, I have about 5% reduced lung capacity in my right lung, and just the associated sh!t that comes with age and such an injury. You're right, not necessarily hear - but jeez I'm sure he'd know about it one way or another.
Bloody hell - ripper of an injury that one. Hopefully you were able to make a relatively full recovery!
I think you'd be surprised how many players get jabbed before a game. A couple of years ago, Andrews was getting a needle before each game, because one knee was stuffed. Might have been the same year, and Neale was being jabbed in the shoulder to play. Second half of last year, Payne was being jabbed in the ankle each week to play. The AFL make a big deal about ‘drugs’ which can be illegal (or legal) that can enhance (or degrade) performance. And if you’re in the wrong the AFL will clobber you.
Yet a player whose performance has been negatively affected by an injury can be jabbed - legally - and have that performance brought back possibly to the point that they can resume.
Surely that is the definition of performance enhancing? And yet the AFL are fine about that. Double standards I’d suggest.
Not sure that makes it right. And it’s even ‘less right’ mid game.I think you'd be surprised how many players get jabbed before a game. Don't recall this but certainly remember Hayden Bunton Jnr copping an errant boot which ripped open his sack and refusing to leave the field as he wanted to be there when Austin Robertson Jnr kicked his 150th goal for the season. He was playing for Subi against Old Easts and the trainers packed his jock strap with cotton wool to keep his nuts from completely dropping out.Did Craig turley keep playing with his nuts outside of his sack?

Playing the Demons in 4 weeks' time will be easier without Petracca out for me the medium term.

Close.
Thats not really surprising though, injuries were pretty badCurrent word is that Petracca's rib injury could see him miss the rest of this year.
Lacerated spleen .Current word is that Petracca's rib injury could see him miss the rest of this year.

I was on a morphine drip to start with, then a combination of endone and targin.I can't imagine the pain you were in - I have had many broken bones, including broken ribs, and wow, you must have been hurting so bad.
I hope they caught the person that caused this to you.I was on a morphine drip to start with, then a combination of endone and targin.
The first few weeks I slept a lot, mostly sitting up, because laying down hurt.
The hardest part was going back to work after four and half months. I had lost all my core strength, and just standing and working for 8 hours everywhere.
He stopped.I hope they caught the person that caused this to you.
Unfortunatelyour justice system would not impose any significant penalty on the accused.
