Freos top end is sublime but the last handful of B22 players are dog shit, and they quickly need to find a way to give them roles so that they can contribute and do something meaningful with this list.

Honest triers like Hutchy turned into superstar role players and carried us to the promised land. Whenever their bottom few like Johnson or Banfield get near the footy they lose so much momentum.

it’s this time of the year where the experience lost in the last couple of years really comes back to bit them. Acres, Schultz, Hamling may all not get a game in the best 22 each week but interstate sides in particular need the depth when it starts to become a grind at the end of the year and injuries start to strike.

They will be fine, freo, in the long run- the core list is relatively young. But they are in need of a genuine combative midfielder to round out the group. It’s so evident when Fyfe isn’t around how much they get bullied on ball when the heat is on. They’ve obviously ruled out Brodie for whatever reason but they’ve not looked the same since he was edged out of the side.

Without Fyfe in there they look like a whole bunch of plodding midget beige players. Young has come on hugely obviously but they get pushed around so easily.
