The picture gets clearer with every piece

Clarkson being the patriarch who always knows best. Overstepping because he ultimately cares more about winning footy than people’s feelings.

Being seen by confident white kids as somewhere between firm and overbearing.. but when “helping” indigenous kids totally lacking the cultural sensitivity (and probably the care) to understand how his actions would land with them and their loved ones.
Yep. I'd say borne more out of ignorance than malice, but reflective of paternalistic and racialised thinking.

So they want us to excuse the racism by making him out to be a psycho. Ok.

I wonder if any white players are going to come out saying they were told to have an abortion.

Its getting worse by the day, any wonder the indigenous players and families don't want anything to do with the AFL investigation, its just going to be all about defending the white dudes.
Unfortunately there are many stories to share about that kind of treatment. It's been institutionalised in this country. Jeff doesn't get that, but it is why media is so important.

Edit: I just said I didn't want to go down this path, and here I am. I'm going back.

You could read it like that, but I actually think she was making further allegations and the continual mention of “this person was asked for comment and declined” throughout was interesting. It was definitely checked by lawyers.

I also like that the end of the article quoted part of Clarkson’s statement, but it was the part where he was saying he felt he wouldn’t get a fair hearing because of the stuff being in the media.

Normally a he said/she said type situation is that people (/media) try to discredit the victim, humanise the perpetrator and use a lot of euphemisms in the process. It already started with the Indigenous players from the ABC article, people saying they’re disgruntled former employees or they misunderstood or whatever.

Who is going to discredit Sam Mitchell? His name is on it, he isn’t Indigenous or female or any other minority, he’s not an ex-employee, and most of it looked like it came out of his book, which is published and hasn’t been contested to date. You’d think if it was wrong there would’ve been subject to defamation proceedings before now.

If you can establish the credibility of one victim, you establish a baseline that makes the others more likely to be credible too.
Yeah, I see where you're coming from. In my subconscious I knew what my brain had come up with was probably a bridge too far. I'm just hypercynical about this stuff, but I'm aware of it.

Nobody wants to keep going down this path but while the racism keeps going on we have too.

The thought crossed my mind this afternoon that Caro's claim that Mitchell was treated in a similar way somehow perversely pivoted the perspective of Clarko to be one where the seriousness of the allegation is diminished because here's evidence that Clarko treated everyone like that.

It was too weird. I turned my thoughts to other things.
We know Clarko is a massive POS and possibly a psychopath but when you hear about Mitchell and I'll add Savage to the list, there is a pattern of behaviour that is not just confined to indigenous players. It is what it is.

I'm very confident Clarko is 100% cooked now. No more coach of the century. No more coaching. He won't dig his way out of this. The best he can hope for is divided opinion.. but who would employ him (sure.. lol Norf.. but for how long) and who would play for him? You can't have indigenous players on your list and employ Clarkson again.
Maybe in 15 years when hird is the premiership winning efc coach, he might give Al a job as an assistant in the first steps to rehabilitating clarksons image?
🤪

One thought that has stuck with me post saga is our ability to stay on the straight and narrow. Both on field and off it. You look at all the teams who are challenging and they always seem to have something going, an ability to continue to push the club. The Crows in 2018 had there infamous camp, the Demons seemed to have there skeletons (re Goody), the Tigers were always unsociable and toed the line on field, ditto Hawthorn back in the day. Geelong always seem to have question marks on there ability to somehow manage there salary cap despite never bottoming out. Sydney likewise.

We sound like we have not put a foot wrong both on it (via tough nuts on field) or off it (with any truly groundbreaking antics) in recent years.

Yeah, we've been very mediocre at mucking it up ever since. There's mediocrity in every facet at Essendon.

There’s a term for what you’re describing, but staying on the straight and narrow ain’t it.

Mediocre nothingness is closer to the mark.

Yeah, it is. That someone who is culturally insensitive is also insensitive in other ways is not surprising.

Cultural insensitivity is not racism, not unless you adopt a meaninglessly broad, relativist definition of the term.

Very basically, racism is negative discrimination, action or omission based on race. Just because a negative thing happens to a person who is in a minority demographic does not mean it was racist.

If he does the same things with all players how has he not been defamed as attempting to implement the stolen generation?

I feel you've missed the point.. These are the obvious ones, the non publicly knowledgeable ones are the naughty ones. It has felt like we don't challenge ourselves as a club and this have meandered along for a decade or there about since the saga was first broken.

Am not suggesting we go out of our way to break any rules, but it just feels as though we stay in our own lane be it on field with very little hard nuts or off it by constantly pushing the club to be better.

Time to go read the equal opportunity act 2010

Yoda I think you can make the point that we’ve been excessively conservative, or too ‘nice’, as a club since the saga without citing all the other clubs that have got into strife as backing evidence for it.

Who questions Geelongs salary cap?

I'm not so sure we can put the Hawks success down to good coaching anymore. Sounds like it was a mix of tough coaching and torture.

Geelong does have an advantage with the salary cap, because Geelong is such a big region players from the region want to play there just to be closer to their families, so they play for less money. Danger probably gets a million a year at any other team bar Geelong. They mentioned Selwood not holding them to ransom in his retirement press conference. In 2006-2011 they had all those father sons playing for less money.

Its a 1 team town. Its a bigger advantage than 2 team towns of Adelaide and Perth have in that regard.

The ability to play unsociable football and toe the line (which I presume to mean everyone working together to execute the game plan effectively) is good coaching.

People are grey, you can be a good coach and a shit manager.

pretty well known fact too that Ford has a rather over inflated fleet in the region and cotton on also has a larger than normal prescience in the Geelong region also through ambassadors also
