Why didn't the AFL schedule it so both teams that got through the semi had a minimum 7 day break. Giants have 6 days and Carlton 8 days.

So there is more chance of a Collingwood - Carlton GF.

Why not just give everyone a minimum 7 day break? Then the same for the GF. Have the AFL directly released their rationale for this fixturing? I only found a puff piece on AFL.com that said the Giants "Couldn't be better placed" to be coming off a 6 day break. It's not like Kingsley can complain because that would instill defeat into the Giants players psyche.

Then from the following

"AFL officials were reportedly considering putting Brisbane and Carlton on Friday night and Collingwood and GWS on Saturday, which would have given both the Blues and Giants a seven-day turnaround. But that move would have angered Collingwood because it would give them one day less to prepare for the grand final should they advance, compared to the winner of Brisbane and Carlton.

Because the Pies finished first at the end of the regular season, they were rightly given the preferential treatment of playing a Friday night prelim. The Giants came into the finals in seventh place, while the Lions were second and the Blues fifth."

In any case I hope with modern sport science and the recent one week break it doesn't make too much of a difference and see a fair contest where Collingwood loses.

Watching GWS makes you realise how far off we are, and how far away our list management priorities have been in regards to recruiting/developing strong runners. We were cooked at round 16, GWS are producing what they did last night 2 months later. Wild.

It is possible that we're about to see the theory that couldn't previously be applied realised. Whether that is in the next fortnight or in the next 18 months (lattter is more likely).

Too many cooks (i.e. high picks) spoils the broth. They don't play roles.

What they now have is the quality staggered through the generations on the list. So you've got the old and mid aged players who all understand their games and who understand, from experience, that team play is more important.

Attrition may have done the job coaches couldn't or wouldn't do.

Please, they have been gifted high picks since their inception and are still reaping the rewards of that a decade later.
You’ve got to pick players that hold their value though. It’s what’s killed gc players leaving for a 3rd pick instead of a 1st. How many 1st rounds picks have gws gained from trading out stars they don’t want compared to gc getting rid players for nothing/ trading out picks to get salary off the books.

For every free hit, they leak quality players

Adams
Treloar
Shiel
Cameron
Taranto
Hopper
Bruhn (who was part of cameron)
Hill
They don’t leak quality players
Half the ones they let go they’re happy to. Taranto, hopper, shiel, treloar they all good fair/ overs value on for a position they have a heap of depth at. Those 4 players net them 7 1st round picks, add Cameron it’s 10 st round round picks. The only one they’ve lost that they would’ve liked to keep was Cameron but he had a down year and they weren’t offering him a massive contract. They’ve always managed to keep the guys they really like greene, Kelly, whitfield, coniglio, Taylor, himmelberg, green etc

the GWS theme song is an absolute banger
It's just so good. Especially when you consider how bad every single other modern song is. They absolutely nailed it, everything about it is perfect. The tune, the eastern European Cossack feel, the big big sound, everything

I went to one of their AFLW games the other week and I was genuinely pumped waiting for it to come on pre match.

freo singing about how they’re gonna hit their opponents so hard that they die and go to hell always makes me smile
We're gonna role them and we'll rock em,
We're gonna send them to the bottom.
And if they get up, we'll do it again.
