They look shocked to be sitting there
6 weeks bans, really?? I hope the GWS submission is for the AFL to blow it out their ass.
If they can turn Allan into a Weddell-type then they've done very well.And now West Coast's path to that West Aussie kid opens up.
Pundits and fans need to wait at least until the end of trade period before jumping up and down about these deals.
JayJ20, reading Bo Allan's profile suggests he is a player with elite attributes that could provide star power to a side. I'm not saying that is a guarantee that he will be one of the best players in the draft but it's a a significant factor in making a decision like this. We saw it previously when West Coast essentially chose Ginby and Hewett over Sheezel or Wardlaw.
Allan reads as something of a Josh Weddell, 6'3, aggressive, long kicking and with lots of power and athleticism, who knows how to play midfield (or at least more than Weddell did). He could provide that dynamic from half back. If Allan was Matthew Johnson, for example, I think it would be a harder thing to justify - not because Johnson isn't / wont be a solid player but because they would pretty clearly be losing out on potential elite talent.
It is not a strategy without risk. Someone could take Allan or he might be a bust. But at least the latter factor is no less a potential issue if they used #3. I've done a bit more reading and Allan would provide West Coast with a very well balanced set of midfield options in order of recruitment:
1. Chesser, a 184cm generalist, who can in his own ball but has speed to be dangerous spreading from the context, something like Caldwell or Shuey;
2. Ginby, a 191cm West Aussie meat axe, who is very aggressive, physical and athletic in the mould of Elliott Yeo or maybe more Jarrod Berry as a style of player;
3. Hewett, a 184cm West Aussie whose strengths are speed and breaking from congestion, running with the ball generally and footskills, in the mould of a Rozee or Chad Warner;
4. Reid, a 187cm prodigy;
5. Hall, a 6'3 West Australian inside specialist and accumulator thinking something between Will Brodie and Jack McRae;
6. Allan, 6'3 another West Australian and an explosive ball carrier and aggressive contested player.
Culley might be another big body who specialises in the contested side of the game. I'd be very happy with that as a set of options.
If they can turn Allan into a Weddell-type then they've done very well.
Honestly I don't have a doubt they'll make it work. They're very much in the Collingwood and Hawthorn camp of putting it together to win a premiership/make a grand final.
no the guys who dressed
no the guys who dressed as hayne and giddley/featured in a skit about those two people definitely did something wrong. it's very very very obvious what the 'joke' there is and it's disgusting and there's not really any room for them to escape bans.
bans for the 9/11 guys is up for debate. fines for the leadership group fair.
Fine for the guy who sought permission from those who may take offense to his costume (Idun dressing as Django) on its face is not something I think is fair.
Neither is recreating a scene from the movie as that character.
