They should have gone Petracca at pick 1, players like McCartin will struggle in modern footy
agree, Petracca is probably my favourite non-Ess player. Plays with joy, like Joey D. That spirit, combined with their skills and talent, makes them such assets to their respective teams.

Relevant to our game now but much more generally.

Champion data need to create a statistic that does something like compare the inside 50 entries converted into goals and to then notionally reduce behinds and inside 50 entries to reflect the difference between the teams.

Less relevant tonight than it was.

But you can't assume that he is the only player who could do it which is essentially what you have to do to justify the price tag.

The combination of Roughead and Campbell were probably capable of it.

I am not justifying the price Tag. He is being payed way overs. He is young and i still think he will be a good player but he will never be a $1,000,000 dollar player. He is worth less that half of that at the moment.
Not that it matters to the Dogs. They got their flag and are in the mix for another so to them the price is irrelevant.

It is an interesting scenario.
Dogs pay overs for a young bloke who will never be worth more than $600k IMO. Win their flag so to them it is money well spent.
If the Swans do not win a flag with Buddy then it may well be money not well spent on a player who is worth close to what he is getting.

Promising signs from Brisbane. What I would be doing if I were them this off-season:

1. Trade for Kurt Tippett. Given the rumours surrounding his discontent at Sydney and their need to have that senior key forward where they can just bang it long and get a contest, it could be a win/win.
2. Use their current pick 13 (I think? Lore) to get more points. Pick 19 is one that they could trade for points as well to get Ballenden
3. Bring in a definite best 22 mature key defender. Andy Otten or Eric MacKenzie as a FA works.
4. If Schache leaves, get a top 10 pick for him.

Overall, the trades would look like:

1. Pick 19 for Tippett and 41
2. Schache for pick 7 (Collingwood)
3. Picks 7 and 13, 41, 42 for 3, 21, 30 (Gold Coast)

Overall that means they have picks 1, 3, 21, 30, 73. Will 21, 30 and 73 be enough for Ballenden?

Nankervis would have to be the recruit of the year so far. Great pick up

He's another over-rated Maric - Good against the bottom 10 rucks but struggles big time against the best 6 rucks - I'd say he lowered his colors to T-Bell who is hardly a leading ruck - Nankervis is a solid contributor.

This game showing why I rated Taranto so highly, he will be a star

He is a super impressive player - His performances to date are not far behind McGrath.
