Afc wombles are my grandpas team .. Wimbledon won the fa cup in 1988 against all odds before being moved to Milton Keynes against the fans wishes..
A Fans Club. A brand new team was funded by the unhappy dons supporters, starting from the bottom league moving up a division each year before leveling out in division 2.
The original Wimbledon begrudgingly handed over the Wimbledon name and became Milton Keynes after years of animosity. They dropped and leveled out in division 2 with their womble cousins where they have hated each other with spite to this day .. 😂😂
No team is actually based in wimbledon anymore.. 💔
Afc were in Kingsford when I watched them 10 years ago.

When the dons won the fa cup Vinnie Jones was on the list.

Go the afc wombles..rip grandad..and thanks for passing down a real ******* mess of a soccer fan legacy..
As if freo aren't hard enough at times..🤪
I know nothing about soccer but I used to love the Wombles 😁

I'm late to the party here, what's the point of this magic round?
To grow the game outside of Vic.

You get all the clubs in some non-Vic location (preferably NSW or QLD) during the school holidays.

Create a long weekend carnival type atmosphere. Get families to travel from Vic to the carnival. The footy tourist families see multiple games live, encouraging attendance at lower profile matches.

The host city gets the good vibes and tourist dollars from the big event that hopefully encourages goodwill towards the AFL in that city.

WA and SA went hard to host (for the tourist dollars) but the event is really designed for non-traditional footy states.

I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more of Austin John-Moore now the Mega Bowl has been completed.

I like that move for them. Not only do they rid themselves of 20kg from the 2000kgs of superfluous muffintops on the list they need to shed, they could also end up with Ginbey and Busslinger/Hewett. A good situation and likely much better long term than drafting Tsatas or Sheezel etc and watch them bolt in a couple of years.

Something that didn't get enough scrutiny in my opinion was the roles played by Nisbett and Worsfold in the issues developed by Kerr, Cousins, Chick etc.

The "as long as we're winning" mentality fostered by those 2 in particular played a significant role in these guys getting in the problems they did. I've been told be someone who was in the room after the home elim final loss to Collingwood that they suffered in Cousins last year that Cousins was bought in and berated by Worsfold and Nisbett for ruining the club's chances that year. It was done in front of the playing group in the rooms after the loss. This despite him doing nothing different than he'd been doing in previous years and being let go. According to the guy who was there you could see Cousins heart break and it sent a few others in a spin too. We all know the story since then. The club recovered, which is all Nisbett probably cared about, some of their players never really did. Horrible shit.

Btw Afl will never conquer western Sydney.

Swans are the big club in Sydney.

GWS are another 20 years away from a competitive genuine membership fan base that turns up every week.

It's not about conquering, it's about having a presence both there and in Canberra.
