He said a bunch of sensible things. Highlighting the idiocy of filling the lag between the first few handouts and them coming good with even more handouts was pretty good. Hammering home that there is no clawback should they have over-corrected in their manipulation was even better.

Interesting that he should mention being middle of the road as an issue, given Geelong are miles away from middle of the road. It bolstered his objectivity credentials.

The Interview on Fox Footy with Gill last night summed it all up.
Whately and Robbo, two absolute syncophants terrified to challenge his strawman arguments about NGAs and FS benefits, as part of his rebuttals to Ross and Scott comments the night before. those are things that have nothing to do with this assistance package. Why didn’t Whately or Robbo really take him to task on that nonsense justification?

Gill - a guy who “resigned” nearly 600 ****ing days ago! You could not make this shit up

Don't worry, the moment I become a billionaire I am starting a breakaway league. Just a billion or so short at the moment.

Don’t you love it when people pretend to do journalism? Ask hard hitting questions (not) & nod sagely at the replies which have nothing to do with the subject.

Problem solved, case closed. How good if grand final day?

There’s something about Whateley sitting there with his hands crossed like a pious little goody goody two shoes that is incredible irritating, nodding wistfully as Gill confidently bluffs though some nonsense reason for this decision for the viewers ,with a surprisingly audacious level of swagger, even by his dubious standards.

I am going to refrain from comment so as to not offend the footy gods until such time as our players have returned from Vegas unscathed, but that is awful bad luck from a bit of rough and tumble.

Then again, I know of an AFL player who did their ACL in the shower and tore their hammy off the bone in bed with their ladyfriend. Things happen.

I really don’t understand how they can trade the 2024 end of first round compo picks if they are provisional on how they perform next year! What happens if they finish 9-12 and the AFL says sorry you don’t get those two picks after they’ve been traded?
Possibly a handshake agreement that they leave at least one for 2024, which I believe that they would do anyway. They would have to bounce into the finals for both to be taken off them.

That's exactly why they're letting them trade them I bet.

So they can reap the advantage before they inevitably improve next year, which enables the AFL to then shrug their shoulders and say 'woops, who could have possibly seen that coming? Oh well, too late now'.

The thing that gets my goat is that the concessions that North are getting, on top of all the top end draft picks they have had over the last few years (2022: Pick 3, 4; 2021: Pick 1; 2020: Pick 3, 13) are not only designed to make them competitive again, but are likely to eventually lead to a Melbourne type squad capable of winning a premiership.

Melbourne were in effect rewarded for their continued failure both on the field and off the field (including at the draft table) with enough picks such that they eventually jagged good kids that made them a contender. Same thing is now happening to North.

Scott made the point last night that North have made much more finals in the last 8 years than St Kilda yet get rewarded with a chance at a premiership squad. You really are f###ed if you are a middle of the table team.

AFL likes to bang on about equality in our competition, except when it isn't equal. We have had the insane leg ups given to all the east coat teams (Gold Coast, Giants, Sydney, Brisbane) and also to the struggling Melbourne teams (North, Melbourne) as well as the entrenched advantages of the big Melbourne clubs who have managed to continually bring in talent via various VFL era advantages (e.g. father-son, where qualification criteria advantage VFL clubs).

North will be alright with the talent they have, including this years draft picks. They don't need more picks to turn them into another Melbourne.

So on Saturday I was watching the footy with Mrs Clifton (we missed the start, weird timeslot) and like the rest of you we were desperately hoping Carlton got smashed.

This is the first time I've been so on board the Lions train that I felt positive feelings towards Zorko. As Carlton kicked goal after goal I was yelling for Zorko to do some Zorko stuff. At four goals down, surely he would go the biff, go down swinging but he didn't. It was strange. For the first time I wanted him to go full Zorko. I had issued him a license to Zork but he just played a composed game. What a campaigner, typical.
wait a second, do you live in bunbury, busselton way.

basically are we related?

The same player? Wow!

Another contender for best post of the trade period. From the Saints board:

If as rumoured, the Hawks are interested in Howard, I'd be happy with the following -

19 (Gresham compo) and Howard for their 1st
31 for Henry
Future 3rd for Dow

Leaves us with - Hawks 1st, StK 1st, StK 3rd

Seems they've got their own budding Taylor
